The tour of a lifetime. So worth it I can’t even explain. I’ve been a lot of places, but this was a whole experience.

Is there enough time to process LOI/visa clearance for Turkmenistan? I hold Australian passport.

Will I need to bring my own sleeping bag if I book this tour? On my previous overland camping tours - not needed for Middle-East, but was required for Africa.

    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten August 2025

We've not managed to secure the Turkmenistan LOI for the last bookers who booked 3 weeks ago. We don't think you'd get the approval in time, and if you booked the trip departing in 9 days time, you will likely not get the GBAO permit arranged in time either. Therefore, even though we have space on the trip, we don't think you will manage the necessary permits to travel through the entire route. We are taking bookings for 2026 though, and if you book for then, you can enjoy the full trip.

Just wondering what kind of charging facilities there are on this trip for personal devices such as phones, smart watches, cameras, etc.

    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2025

We don't go all the way north to Tashkent and then back again. We will be going south from Osh, following the Pamir Highway to Dushanbe, and then crossing into Uzbekistan to Samarkand, then going west from there to Bukhara.

    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2025

The truck will have some multiplugs with UK and European 2 pin connections. There is also a USB port that you can use.

This trip is an amazing adventure and an experience you'll remember forever, but it does have its challenges. It is open to travellers of all ages, however, when we receive a booking request from a senior traveller, we want to make sure that you know all this now, rather than finding out while already on the trip that it's perhaps not for you. This is a camping-based, fully participatory trip. You will need to put up your tent (which is quite hefty, being a sturdy, 3 person tent) with your tent buddy in the evening, take it down again in the morning and lift it into the tent locker when breaking camp. While we do have some nights in basic hotels, guesthouses and hostels, and there are options to upgrade your accommodation to a bed from time to time, for the vast majority of the trip you will be camping and sleeping on the ground with just your camping mattress. (70% camping and 30% basic hostels/hotels). The cooking and cleaning is done by all members of the group on a rotation system (with the whole group normally split into smaller groups of 3 or 4). Cooking for 20 people can be challenging but your Tour Leader will be on hand to give guidance and advice! It will involve lifting heavy pans, climbing on and off the truck to fetch food supplies from the underfloor storage, reaching into equipment lockers on the side of the truck and washing up. Other things to get involved with are collecting firewood, filling up jerry cans at water supplies and generally keeping the truck clean and tidy. Everyone is expected to do their part in all this and to work as a team - the more everyone pitches in, the better everyone gets along, and the more successfully the trip runs.

    Single supplement
    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten February 2024

We do not offer a single supplement on our overland trips, though we do provide customers the option of bringing their own tent. You will need to let us know in advance if you wish to bring your own tent.

I'm 74 but very fit, take no medications whatsoever, and have been to almost 100 countries, usually traveling solo and staying in hostels. So I'm hoping you'll make an exception to your age limit on this trip. I did a similar overland one for a month in Africa a few years ago and LOVED it!

    Daywise itinerary?

    Tour Details
    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2023

Trip highlights include stunning mountain scenery in Kyrgyzstan, visiting oldest bazaar in Central Asia, traveling through Fergana Valley, driving over Fann Mountains, exploring ancient medressas, mausoleums and mosques in Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand, seeing ships in Aral Sea desert, camping in Kara-Kum Desert, and experiencing Darwaza Gas Crater.

    Asked on June 6th, 2023

What is the standard of the accommodation, is any of it with en suite bathrooms. Also what would a single supplement be.

    Accommodation
    Single supplement
    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten June 2023

The accommodation is approximately 40% camping and 60% simple hostels and hotels. At the camp sites you would not necessarily have en-suite facilities and at some of the hostels/hotels you can upgrade to an en-suite room locally. The guide will be able to assist you with this while on the tour. Since you are a single traveller, we would be pairing you up with another female traveller while on the tour. Upgrades are available whilst on tour.
