Amazing trip with Bagan as a sublime highlight. The tour guide was excellent and made the trip for us. Sailing into Mandalay at sunset was sublime.

This trip was a comfort trip and it lived up to it's name. All the hotels were very comfortable and we well well catered for. I was a solo traveller and my room mate was well matched to my age group and background. Min our guide was excellent, he provided much more information about Myanmar, as he grew up there and support than the tour notes led me to believe. He was a true tour guide in every sense of the word and was very professional in carrying out his duties. He enriched our understanding of the Myanmar culture and was happy to answer all our questions about the people, history and culture. What we learnt from him we couldn't have learnt from guide books or travelling alone. He looked after all our needs exceptionally well. He was a very caring person and looked out for everyone on the trip and was extremely well organised and fun to be with. All our luggage was carried for us from airport to our hotel rooms which was a plus for me. We had a kitty for daily expenses for drivers, assistants, porters etc. The country is truly beautiful, the people friendly and it's very safe. You could bargain everywhere you went. The only downside was that being the wet season we didn't get to spend the day cruising down the Irrawaddy River in Bagan as intended in the tour notes. The only rain we had on the whole trip was in Yangon, but you could still get out and sightsee. Inle Lake made up for not doing the boat trip at Bagan. Our hotel accommodation at Inle Lake was in villas over the lake which was spectacular! We woke to see the sunrise over the lake, which was magical. It was very serene and fascinating seeing the Intha fishermen and the industry of the lake in action. The treck through the villages at Yankin, Pa O and Tang Yoe was the highlight for me as was visiting the local primary school in one of the villages where we donated books and and pencils for the children. They were absolutely enchanting. Seeing village life and people doing traditional things, farming, fishing, using a plough, making umbrellas by hand - carving the wood to make the handle and ribs and the paper covers, making silk fabric and weaving it on looms, making gold leaf for use in decorating the temples and pagodas, seeing lacquer ware being made etc all the traditional crafts as well as food processing - making peanut oil, alcohol and traditional sweets by hand was truly amazing. The country is unspoilt, unpolluted and un-touristy although 5 star hotels are currently being built so it will change very rapidly. There were only a few tourist buses at different places we visited. There was no begging and very little pestering to buy souvenirs which was a bonus. You could walk through markets and shops and browse without being pestered to buy things. Mingun at Mandalay was the worst place for being pressured to buy souvenirs. The natural beauty of the country is breathtaking. Each place was special in it's own way. The hill station at Mandalay was beautiful. Bagan with it's 2000 pagodas was stunning particularly seeing the sunset over the pagodas. The scenery here was quite ethereal. We had wifi access everywhere we went although our mobile phones didn't work at all unless you bought a local simcard. The group got on very well, we had people from U.S., Switzerland, NZ and Australia on the trip and we had our meals together and had a great trip and memorable time. The trip notes need to be updated relating to money and ATM machines, They are available everywhere, even at the Heho airport there is a money changer and ATM machine and you don't need to bring $US in cash. It's a back-up to have some cash but most people had travel cards and got cash from ATM machines. I lost money changing AUS dollars into US $ to take on the trip. This aspect is changing very quickly.even some larger shops, like Lacquer ware shops are taking Visa card.I would definately recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing a traditional culture in action before it becomes too westernised and spoilt.
