I don't know if the success of our trip was more of a testament to our local guide or to Topdeck but I'll say both and give a huge thumbs up to my experience in Egypt. The tour was really well organised and executed. Our guide, Rafik, was a local so was a wealth of knowledge and not one night did we not sit down and bombard him with questions. He was also able to provide extra advice and recommendations, particularly in Dahab. I couldn't recommend this tour highly enough. The group we had were also fantastic and that's really what makes a trip isn't it!

Highlights of the trip - Abu Simbel by far, make sure that if you a re going to Egypt that it is included. Favorite activities for this trip was sitting around the pool or on the felucca chilling out, May was an ideal time to go as the weather was great , hot but bearable. Packing tips, pack lightly and ensure that you take something in case you get the Dehli Belly aka the shits!!!! Egypt is used to travellers now and there is not much need for girls to be covered up as there used to be. Money wise- there are heaps and heaps of ATM around to get money out. Carry a few extra US dollars just in case as they can come in handy. Why should you visit Egypt- It is amazing the weather, the people and the sites are awesome words can not explain. Top deck tours do an awesome tour and please note that tours do not include entrance fees and extras. Also another handy hint is to take a student card with you!!!

This was a fantastic trip. The group size is approx 20 people which is a nice size, big enough to have a variety of people but not too big that you don't get to know everyone. The highlights for me included seeing the pyramids of Giza and also the incredible Abu Simbel. Although sailing along the Nile also was fantastic. I would't recommend visiting Egypt any later than about May as the temperature was hitting 40 degrees already in April and it was quite hot. A very unique holiday.

In April, I did a topdeck tour through Egypt for 14 days. This mysterious and beguiling land enchanted and captivated me, and ultimately changed me. It began in Cairo, before we made our way down the Nile towards Luxor before visiting Aswan. The last week was spent in Sinai, on the coastal town of Dahab. To choose one highlight would be injustice to this country and all its quirks and wonderous sights, but one cannot go past Abu Simbel as the place that stood out the most. We start by exploring the inside of the temple before getting the photos out front. The inside was incredible, built into a mountain every wall and coloumn had elaborate and detailed depictions, and some of the scenes and coloumns painted in bright colours which still remain strong even after all this time. It is all trying to promote Ramses II as equal to the gods with many of the reliefs showing him giving offerings to the gods, or being accepted by the gods. The most impressive and elaborate of the carvings would have been that of the Battle of Kadesh, a very impressive piece of propaganda. The outside was so grandiose and just left you in awe with the four statues of Ramses, looking out over his long lost kingdom. What is also so amazing about the site is that it had been moved 300m uphill to allow for the dam to be built, so piece by piece was moved up. Mt Sinai was the most incredible natural sight of the trip, climbing up this holy mountain was a moving experience whether you're religious or not. The views over the valley in this completely dry and barren land were stunning. The group was composed of mainly Australians and a few Americans and we all got along so well. To go to Egypt, you need to have adventurous and fun-loving qualities, which all of us had and that made us click so easily. I have made lifelong friends from this journey. Topdeck made for a fantastic tour which ran smoothly and with a laidback and fun element. Egypt is a land that will hit you and all your senses and it is essential to keep an open mind otherwise you will be left behind and not catch up. It will change you, that's guaranteed and will take you on the greatest ride of your life.
