    4.0 - Good

Overall the trip was OK. A bit uneven though in that days 2 to 6 were full on visiting pagodas, and then lots of travelling to little effect. day 10 was a complete waste of time - free day stuck in the middle of Lake Inle with nothing to do, and nowhere to go except visit by boat the same (types of) places s on day 9, or travel by car for 4 to 6 hours to see some newish pagodas which try to imitate the effect of Bagan on a smaller scale. We were lucky/unlucky to be the only two people on our tour. This surprised us as there were quite a number of tours we crossed from Spain, France(?) and Germany(?) with 10 to 20 people. Why is Myanmar not marketed in Australia as a tourist destination at this time of year? The luck was in having our own personal guide, car and driver; unlucky though in not having other non-Myanmar to talk to and discuss the tour sights with. The tour guides and drivers were all good, and very accommodating to our whims. Day 8 started with what purported to be 'soft trekking about 2 hours walking distance, through small ranges with tea-leaf and cheroot- plantations and rice fields, approach to Painaebin village of Danu people.' according to HGTravel.com, or 'trekking in the Palaung Hills through small ranges of rice paddies and tea plantations bringing us to Painaebin village . . .' according to Tour radar. Neither are correct. On meeting the trek guide we were informed that the plan was a 2 hour walk up into the mountains to the village, followed by a further 3 hour steep walk out of the mountains to a different place. Fortunately the tour guide and the trek guide were quite helpful and accommodating, such that we only walked to the village and then back after a meal provided by the trek guide and cooked by him in the village. (This was what the guide had been contracted to do.) The walk itself was a 6km stiff climb, especially for my wife (67 yrs of age) and myself (71) both of us having some mild arthritic problems. 1km downhill at 5% average grade followed by 1km flattish and 6km up a 10% average grade, all on rough, stony roads in 30°c plus heat and high humidity is not soft trekking. For this last reason - medium to hard trekking with no warning given - and the wasted day at Lake Inle I would not advise anyone else to take this tour, albeit the parts in Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and actually on L. Inle were quite good.

Dear Peter, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry that your soft trekking did not proceed as described within your documentation, this was certainly not as we instructed and we are very sorry it occurred. We are in contact with your guide now to get to the bottom of what went wrong and why and very much appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Should there be anything additional you would like us know, please do not hesitate to contact us via aus-info@onthegotours.com. Thanks again, On The Go Tours

The website was easy to use and the tours were easy to select and compare. The staff were brilliant and really helpful when calling. I love the chat feature between the tour operator and I! It was perfect and allowed me to ask questions without having to call up constantly. Awesome company and I'll be using them again in the future.
