I chose this trip because I was interested in the Canadian Maritime Provinces and in seeing Acadia National Park. Given the tour took in 3 provinces and 1 state, there was a lot of driving in order to accomplish all of this . I was pleased with the itinerary, however in order for an itinerary to be experienced in real time, the tour guide must be the leader with experience who will help to achieve this goal. Our French Canadian tour guide was not proficient in understanding nor speaking the English language, did not know well the areas that we visited and in some place had not been there before this trip. She drove the group from place to place with no narration on what we were seeing, no history, nor cultural context of the area. She simply drove and used her i phone to navigate every road and turn that she had to take-and at times mistakes were made. The driver was not a master of the vehicle nor of the roads that she was driving on -at times she would drive 20km below the speed limit allowed and in torrential rain on our last day would drive the maximum speed allowed, flying through pouring rain and puddles- without a bit of caution. I was uneasy with her driving the entire trip and worried about it the entire time. I felt terribly stressed on the trip because of the unexpected and dissatisfied performance by a tour guide with whom a traveler is supposed to have the greatest confidence in for being the leader. As a traveler on this trip, it was the worst tour I have been on (and I have been on many ) because of the guide. The areas that we visited, I will continue to recommend, but I would not recommend Grand American Adventures because I do not understand how a tour company can send out a group of travelers new to the area with such an incompetent guide.

A really enjoyable trip through a beautiful part of the world. Lakes, forests, lighthouses and small towns with little white wooden houses, moose sightings and some great walking trails - what's not to love. Despite the rain, it was a great time of year to travel here as we were constantly stopping for spectacular views of fall colours. There were so many highlights, particularly in Nova Scotia, from spotting moose at dawn and dusk, coastal kayaking in a beautiful setting, and walking the fabulous Skyline trail in Cape Breton Highlands; to the peaceful and picturesque Peggy's Cove and Lunenberg. Despite the rain, Prince Edward Island was also a highlight with our seafood BBQ and our motel owner Arnold was an absolute star, overflowing with local knowledge and local stories. Basically I'd love to do it all again!
