I truly enjoyed this tour. It was a wonderful mix of sightseeing, city visits, adventure, good people, knowledge, fun and relaxation. The trip did not feel too short or too long. Our guide was one of the best parts of the trip. Si worked so hard each day and still looked like he enjoyed the trip and us as well. There were only a few disappointments with this tour. First, the tour states "Breakfast is included". I believe this statement is extremely misleading. Breakfast turned out to be a clear plastic tote full of ingredients that people could use to make their breakfast each morning. Luckily it also included some fresh fruit. When I booked this tour, I knew lunch and dinner would have to come out of my pocket each day. I think the tour description for breakfast needs to be changed to something like "Breakfast ingredients provided each morning" because there are people who do not cook (like me) and there are families (like the mother and her 2 daughters) who probably would have preferred to be fed while on vacation vs. learning, while on vacation that we would have to work for breakfast. I ended up just getting up earlier to hunt for a place each morning to eat at. This turned out to be an additional cost that I was unable to plan for. Lastly, heat in the rooms was an issue a few times. There were six of us woman who almost always had to share a dorm room that was either too big to warm up from the tiny heater placed in the room OR the room heater did not work (heat the room at all). It seemed like in Winter, at minimum we should have a warm room. There were moments that I felt like we were given the cheapest option verse us as customers being given a pleasant room experience. Especially since many places had a lot of vacancy due to it being winter. For those who did a room upgrade to have their own room, there were amenities and a warm room. Heat should not be an additional expense, especially in Winter. Outside of those disappointments, the tour was absolutely wonderful. I rarely felt rushed and was able to participate in almost all of my excursions. Only 2 were cancelled due to weather. Thank you for such an amazing time :)

An overall excellent overview of all the north and south islands have to offer. Small group size made for a comfortable and collegial tour experience. A great lineup of adventure activites as well as some options for those who were looking for a more laid-back experience. Our tour guide, Si, was amazing and knew everything there is to know about the history and natural features of New Zealand. Highly recommend!

I was tentative about booking a tour as I am accustomed to traveling on my own. I was hesitant as I wasn’t sure how I would get along with the group or the tour guide. All my reservations were proven to be unwarranted. I would like to believe that all your tour guides are as well deserving of the review I am writing. That being said, I didn’t get any of the other tour guides so all I can speak to is the experience I had with Andy. He is a dedicated, passionate, and a customer service focused employee that works with the highest level of integrity. In my current role, I work with CEOs and business owners every day. Often times they only hear the negative of what is going on within their organization. Knowing this, I find it extremely important to communicate when I have a positive experience with any company or representative of that company. Andy did your company proud with how he ran the Haka Tour. From day one Andy created an environment that fostered a quick and successful bonding of our group. We were all able to express ourselves, share our thoughts and get to know and appreciate each other. The expectations and schedule were clearly outlined each day. Andy took the time to get to know each individual and cater to their specific needs. With so many eclectic personalities, that in itself, is a slightly miraculous feat. Andy’s attention to detail and focus on the costumer shown through every day. We had surprise stops that related to each tour member’s desires. There were behind the scene moving parts that the group was never aware of. While we were on holiday our guide was working and making sure everything ran smoothly. Our group felt like family within three short days and I give Andy much of the credit for the creation of that bond. His passion for sharing New Zealand, empathy and compassion for people in general and his love of adventure, made the tour an unimaginable experience. His passion is contagious and resonated with all of us resulting in making us excited for each and every morning, to wake up and see what new adventures the day would hold. When one of the tour member’s father unexpectedly got ill, Andy helped to arrange transportation and made sure that John was able to make it home in time to see his father one last time before he actually died. He dealt with the situation as a professional and also as a caring human being, a friend. That can be a fine and difficult line to walk. Andy walked this line beautifully. The logistics of the tour, breakfast, activities, travel time, etc. were well organized. None of the group felt the slightest bit of stress and that is due to Andy’s ability to remain calm, deal with situations professionally and connect with people on their own level. Andy’s passion and dedication were also seen in his tireless efforts to participate with the group. Most jobs are 9-5 and employees have the opportunity to turn off. Andy was on 24/7. Even after a long work day of driving, entertaining, organizing, etc. Andy would always continue working and set-up dinners or after hour activities the group could opt to participate in. There was never a minute of the tour when Andy was not, in some way, shape or form, working. Andy demonstrated an outstanding service attitude and comprehensive knowledge of the destinations we visited along the way. He was always ready to serve the needs and extra requests of the travelers as well as provided valuable and insightful information. He worked above and beyond any set requirements. His patience, sense of humor and tireless energy are unparalleled by any other tour guide I have seen. Andy’s dedication, passion, customer service focus mindset and integrity make Andy, the type of employee any organization would be lucky to have. I would like to highlight the excellent job done by our tour guide, Andy. I think it’s important for every organization to know how their employees are doing in the field. I am sure that every tour guide has an impact on how each tour goes. Andy was a key element to the success of our tour and a key factor in making Haka Tours the award winning company it is. My only regret is that I wasn’t able to stay on tour longer. I will forever recommend Haka Tours to any colleagues, family and friends. This recommendation is a direct reflection of the excellent job done by your employee.

Loved the tour. Lizzie made it for me. She was bubbly, accommodating and yet flexible. The group were great, age range 19 to 72, now that's some range. All Haka hostels were super, others, not so much.

I had an amazing time on the 16 day Amplified NZ Tour and I would definitely recommend Haka tours to anyone looking for a taste of New Zealand. We saw and did so much in a short space of time, that I can't name one thing I didn't enjoy. The tour had a really fun bunch of people from around the world and we always had a good laugh. Our guide was awesome, he was part of the family. He was very knowledgeable, really helpful, organised and always kept us informed of activities for a particular day and if there were any issues. He also made sure everyone had a good time. If you want to get away from city life, do activities you don't normally do, see some greenery, mountains/hills, New Zealand is definitely the place to be.

16 Day Amplified Tour of New Zealand

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • Is there a hotel list available?

The tour operator has advised that they do not have a full list of accommodations available for the Amplified NZ tour, as the accommodations change so frequently. After the booking is made you will be issued your final trip documents with your specific accommodation details. However, a couple of examples of accommodations they use for this tour are the Haka Hotel in Newmarket, the Haka Lodge in Christchurch, the Haka Lodge in Taupo and YHA in Wanaka - hopefully, this can give you a better idea of the kind of accommodation you can expect on tour.

    • When and where does the tour end?

This tour concludes at approximately 5-6.30 pm at the tour operator's very own Haka Lodge in Christchurch (518 Linwood Ave, Woolston, Christchurch 8062). Luckily, you accommodation on the last night of the tour is included, so feel free to party with your new travel buddies and treat yourself to a lie-in in the morning, where your tour ends after breakfast.

    • When and where does the tour start?

This tour starts at 8 am on the first day of the tour, from the tour operator's very own Haka Hotel in Auckland (located in Newmarket on Manukau road). As this tour has such an early start, you can choose to stay in the hotel the night before the tour starts, which gives you a relaxed start to your Haka experience. Get ready, because on the first day of the tour, you will stop by the famous Hot Water Beach, which thousands visit each year to dig their own personal hot tub.

I love Tour Radar. They gave me all the support when I needed contacting the agent themselves to solve my problems while I was on the trip. The response was always quick and I also got the best deals, always cheaper than with the operator. Can't fault it really. Just booked my second trip with them this week.
