A wonderful jam-packed 2 weeks covering fascinating ancient history, beautiful natural features, pristine national parks, a brilliant train trip and bustling cities. The itinerary was a good mix of experiences complimented by Kash's (our guide) excellent local knowledge. At Kash's suggestion, we went on an impromptu tour of a National Park near Dambulla where we were privileged to get close to a herd of over 100 elephants, a real 'wow' moment and a highlight of our trip. We weren't so lucky with elephants in the scheduled National Parks, so if not for Kash's knowledge and suggestion, we would have missed out. We were also lucky enough to see and photograph a leopard at Yala. These wildlife experiences were definitely worth the trip to Sri Lanka on their own. Coupled with the rest of our cultural and historic experiences, I can definately recommend this tour. Tour guides have a very important and noble job. That is to help to build wonderful memories for people to carry for the rest of their lives. Kash did an excellent job of helping build those wonderful memories.

The best part of the tour was the efforts our Guide Priya and his crew went to make sure we were happy. Priya is very experienced and knowledgeable and ready to share information about life in his beloved Sri Lanka. He also provided individual attention when any of us wanted to do something a bit different. My friend and I had been travelling independently in the north of Sri Lanka before joining and greatly appreciated how much more we got out of being on this tour. Special mention to our driver who never gave us a moments concern.

We enjoyed the small group travel in the one vehicle with excellent tour leader, assistant and driver. Our guide ,Priya, was exceptional - well organised, knowledgeable, professional and caring. Our driver, Anil, always drove safely which reassured us at all times. We also enjoyed having an assistant guide, India, who cared for our luggage, ensured our safety when alighting from the vehicle and always greeted us with a smile. Guide, driver and assistant worked well together and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our guide was sensitive to the culture of Sri Lanka educating us at all times. We visited all the well known sites as described in the itinerary, had an opportunity to visit an additional National Park and engaged in other activities such as a cooking class. We enjoyed the pace of the tour and opportunity to sample local dining places recommended by our guide. A thoroughly enjoyable experience!

So much was included in the tour. Real value for money. All hotels were good and comfortable and the rooms were quite large. Not a lot of free time so be prepared for a hectic schedule. Enjoyed the trip.

I just completed the Jewels of Sri Lanka 15 day trip. Everything on the itinerary was met and then some. I feel my time here was sufficient and I don’t feel like I missed anything. I also opted in on all optional activities particularly Adam’s Peak which I’m glad I got to do and the optional safari which was nothing short of spectacular. When you take this tour, you will cover a lot of ground. The ruins are beautiful, the parks, safaris and beaches are all excellent. The hotels were excellent with nice beds, hot and strong showers and most with spectacular views. We were a small group of only 6. I have only taken a couple group tours but I found this one to be the most tightly scheduled...almost like a big box bus tour but small group. There is little to no time to explore on your own (even if you choose optional activities). There is little to no time to handle personal things like doing your own laundry, post office or explore small shops. You’ll spend 2 days in a few cities where you might be able to get personal deeds accomplished but some of the hotels were away from city centers so you’d need a tuk tuk if you want to go off on your own. Close to all meals were hotel buffet or group dining at a restaurant selected by the guide. There were restaurants in Dambulla however everyone ate dinner at the hotel. There are plenty of choices for good restaurants in Kandy and Unawatuna. Unawatuna is where we had the most free time including restaurant of our own choice. Be warned there will be TWO gem store shops! This was overkill with the last gem store enroute back to Negombo being the worst with high pressure salesmen. This trip would’ve been great if we skipped the shopping experience in Kandy and the last gem store. Tucan should consider rescheduling their tours around holidays. Tea plantation (except the shop) was closed due to new year festivities and some restaurants in Kandy were closed. The river cruise enroute back to Negombo should be included. It is a nice option but if you wanted to skip it you’d basically sit around waiting as there is nothing else within walking distance of that area. Overall, Jewels of Sri Lanka is the perfect trip and a 4 star or B+ losing a star for the inflated shopping experience, gem stores and limited time. You will get to see and do a lot. My only suggestion is skip the morning shopping experience in Kandy (you can see the viewpoint on your own) saving yourself from a second gem store shop.

Priya was our guide and had great knowledge about his home country. Priya was flexible and was able to add a few extra activities in without fuss. India and Arneil were fantastic as our driver and Priya assistant. Great trip with a great range of sightseeing.

Fantastic tour and guide(Amara). Our guide took extra time to point out dozens of birds for us. The participants on the tour made the the trip special they came from many countries. This is a comprehensive tour which makes it worth the long flights.
