    2.0 - Rather poor

It was a strange start, joining an already formed group, who had been through the desert together for 2 weeks. We were with that group for 3 days and then it split again. Not till that split did I feel welcomed. In fact the leader never did proper introductions. The hotels were horrible. We did not have hot water half of the time. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired. They were 3 star hotels maybe on a 10 Star scale. Many hotels were infested with mosquitos. One or two with bees. I used my own sheets most nights as there was obvious dirt on the linens. Most of the private transport vehicles were too small to really safely and comfortably transport the group. Some lacked enough seat belts for all passengers. While seat belts are not common in that part of the world, we still could have been provided vehicles with this level of safety. In one car our luggage was practically piled on top of us. Fortunately it was an hour ride. The itinerary was good. Maybe too much time allocated to Khajuraho, but I don’t know how to remedy that if using public transit. Also, all public transit took longer than publicized times. I would have liked more time in Varanasi. We arrived later than anticipated and left before sunrise the next day. It was a good itinerary and the guides were decent. They seemed ever so slightly burned out. But also revealed that there are very few of them for India and Nepal. The trip would have been a lot better with better accommodations and better transport. One should not have to decide between hotel rooms one with functioning bathroom or air conditioning. They both should be standard. And while a hot shower daily is nice, one at least every third day. Many places did not have hot water either. Or not enough for the entire property.

Hi Trisha thank you for leaving feedback on your tour in India and Nepal. We are pleased that you enjoyed the overall itinerary. Our tours are of a modular nature with smaller tours making up larger tours. This means you will often have people joining and leaving the tour at different points, which is great way to meet different fellow travellers. We are sorry that you did not feel the accommodation was adequate. The accommodation used is listed under each day on our website and due to some of the remote destinations we visit we cannot guarantee hot water or air-conditioning. Our hotels are generally chosen for their location to the main sights rather than their star-rating. We take safety on our tours extremely seriously and we are investigating your complaints about the transport used but we recommend emailing with more information about your tour.

    3.0 - Average

This was a budget holiday and was NOT advertised as such. We did not expect luxury but equally we did not expect the very poor standard of accommodation and transportation offered. We accept that Indian culture is very different from that of the West, however, basic essentials like a toilet that works or clean towels and sheets without grey stains all over, should have been included in this tour. We met out tour guide Bishnu, on the first day in Old Delhi for a group briefing and then he disappeared never to be seen again. We were taken around Delhi by local guides who were very good but we didn't know who they were and for whom they worked so tipping proved problematical. In Agra we joined another tour of 5 people with their guide Avonay who had been with them for two weeks already. The guide made no attempt to assimilate the two groups and consequently for the rest of the tour there was a feeling of "them" and "us". Also the guide gave absolutely NO information for the entire time we were with him. There was no clear information about what was going to happen and when, no information when we visited places of interest. In fact when we were watching the daily festival of thanks at the side of the River Ganges in Veranasi, our guide was busy looking at his phone and the only reason we had a clue about what was going n was because the of the guide in the boat behind us. This attitude and conduct from our guide was consistent throughout. We walked around the village of Baranasi and there was no communication about the purpose of the walk. It was only when we picked up our last guide that we had any idea what we were supposed to be experiencing. Our Nepal guide. Rupan, was excellent. So opposite to the former guides. He worked 110% to make our experience the best. He was always one step ahead of the tour and foresaw group and individual needs. Because of the fuel shortage he had to work hard to negotiate transport for our journey but he always presented a calm exterior whilst working like fury behind the scenes. He was full of information and worked hard to integrate the group especially when two other individual travelers joined at different times. He was very sociable and always professional. Rupan made our experience in Nepal enjoyable and interesting and we are indebted to his dedication and professionalism. If all the guides had been as good as Rupan the whole tour would have rated so much higher in our estimation but I'm afraid the Indian part of the tour was badly let down by Bishnu and Avonay.

Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback on your recent India tour. It is difficult for us to comment on your particular tour as we have very limited feedback from passengers on this particular departure. I am sorry that you felt that two of your three tour leaders were not of a high enough quality. Our tour leaders are meant to lead and not guide and we rely on local guides to provide the detailed knowledge of the area instead. Without further information on which modes of transport and hotels were disappointing, it is impossible to comment on this, however, I recommend that you email with detailed feedback on your tour. Thank you again for taking the time to leave comments and we do hope you continue to travel with us in the future. Jess @ Tucan Travel
