Tatiana was a fabulous guide who showed an interest on every one in her tour group . She was always ready and willing to help in any way she could. Her knowledge of Cuba was very extensive.

This is the best. We were fortunate to have an awesome tour leader in Valeri who along the journey taught us more than we’ve ever known about Fidel and his struggle, the Revolution and the day to day living of the Cuban people. The whole experience staying in Casa’s was invaluable; our mistake was not learning a little Spanish to enhance this experience. The food was plentiful and tasty. We wouldn’t have been able to find such restaurants, cafes if it wasn’t for our guide as they are “tucked away” in unassuming facades. We would highly recommend this tour and Valeri in particular.

I’d been to Cuba twice before this tour and did the all-inclusive thing. Going back with Intrepid felt like I was visiting a completely different country. We got to go to places and see things you would never get to do from a resort and having a local guide gave us insider insights. Outside of visiting and eating at an organic farm and getting private group salsa lessons, my group and our tour leader were also huge highlights for me. I would absolutely recommend travelling to Cuba with Intrepid Travel.

AMAZING COUNTRY! Get here before all the cruise ships start flooding in drones. This NEEDS to be the top of your travel list. The food/culture/people/dancing was second to none. Dancing in the streets was a daily occurrence. Our guide Val was so so good! he was knowledgeable, funny, fun, and really well organized. I don't know how he did it!?! This is the ONLY way to see Cuba. Skip the all inclusive and EXPERIENCE Cuba! VIVA LA CUBA!

    2.0 - Rather poor

We travelled with Intrepid in early December 2015. The tour was generally well organised, the bus driver was good, however there were a few flies in the ointment that slightly undermined our impressions. On a couple of nights when we supposed to stay with families, in 'casas' we were put in rental homes operated by locals. If the idea was to meet the local people and to find out a bit about their way of life, it was totally lost on us as they did not live there. So instead of home stay we ended up staying in a cheap B&B. It was very disappointing. Another thing, the tour included some lunches and dinners but on some days we had to pay for eating out. On one of the days when the lunch was covered by Intrepid, we were brought to a place for lunch that literally swarmed with flies. Everybody felt disgusted and could not eat most of the food (as everybody is so polite, nobody made a scene about it). Still a few people felt seriously sick after that and one person was taken to hospital for two days. The guide Tony Mas should have made a decision and refused to feed us there. But he did not and he got a lot of angry feedback from the group. Another thing, the tour included salsa lesson. I understand the tour guide wanted to save some money and instead of organising a lesson at one of many available salsa clubs, arranged a makeshift 'salsa' hour at one of the casas. He also mentioned that Cubans think of tourists as 'walking dollars'. I guess there is some truth in it but it is not something that I would necessarily want to hear from a tour guide. After this we felt that money was saved and corners cut on our particular group. I personally did not enjoy the practice of 'contributions' or tips that everybody sort of expected literally everywhere in the country (we certainly have been mostly around touristy places) although tourists do pay a lot for basic stuff in there. It is not cheap if you don't speak Spanish. In conclusion, my husband and I left with mixed feelings: lovely country, great climate but hated being treated like 'walking dollars'.

The tour was fantastic, an awesome group helps, but a phenomenal guide certainly makes the tour!! Our guide Natalia was organized, dedicated, went above and beyond, was fun loving, friendly and made sure that we got the full experience of Cuba!

A great primer on Cuba. The trip covers alot of ground in a short amount of time. Fellow travelers were mostly Aussies and New Zealanders of mixed ages. Included hotels and home stays were comfortable and good (by Cuban standards). Our tour leader - Natalia - was really incredible, she had the whole trip completely under control and was delightful to get to know. Recommended!
