FAQs

    • Is there any specific cultural protocol we have to adhere to?

In the Fijian villages, women must cover their shoulders and knees at all times. It is perfectly fine to wear short sleeved shirts as long as shoulders are covered. Sarongs and T-shirts or collared shirts are also fine.
Men should bring a sarong for some occasions but it is a bit more flexible and they may not need to wear it all the time. Men should bring a short sleeved collared shirt to wear when in schools or at village functions. Most of the time it is acceptable for men wear trousers or shorts, however men will need to purchase a formal ‘sulus’ for school, official functions and on a Sunday’s when in village.
As we live in the village, the dress code needs to be complied to all times. When not in villages, ie – weekend trips to resorts and towns, both male and female volunteers are free to wear what they prefer.

    • Are there any specific times when schools are closed and do the programs still run

In the end of April/beginning May and mid/late August and December schools are closed. We always operate alternative activities such as holiday summer camps or doing maintenance task to ensure the upkeep of the centers which we work in. The base is closed from mid-December through to January and so there will be no programs running over this period.

    • What are some tips for volunteers travelling out to the field?

There is access to power so if you are keen to take photos and edit them you can bring a laptop.
      Bring some extra snacks,
Books to read during down time.

    • What are the various durations of this program that are available

This program runs for anything from 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 week durations, depending on the time of year and specific starting date. Please inquire for information regarding this

    • Is the food and accommodation included?
