Itinerary
- Day 1
Georgetown to Iwokrama River Lodge
You'll head out early from Georgetown toward Iwokrama River Lodge using your preferred transport option. The 8-hour 4x4 route takes you through a historic mining town and rainforest terrain, while the 1-hour flight covers the distance faster. Once you've settled in at the lodge, a guide will take you on nearby wildlife trails where you can look for birds and trees. Later this evening, there's a nocturnal river cruise planned on the Essequibo River where you'll search for Black Caiman and other creatures that come out after dark.

Iwokrama: Turtle Mountain Trek
After eating breakfast, you'll take a scenic 30-minute boat ride to reach the base of Turtle Mountain. From there, the hike to the 290m summit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and gives you views of the rainforest canopy below. During the climb you might spot Harpy Eagles, vultures, different bird species, Red Howler Monkeys, and Black Spider Monkeys. The rest of your day involves checking out trails around Turtle Mountain Camp where you'll spend the night.

- Day 3
Kurupukari Falls and Iwokrama Canopy Walkway
Breakfast at Turtle Mountain Camp gets your day started, then you'll head to Kurupukari Falls to see ancient Amerindian petroglyphs that date back over 6,000 years. After lunch, you experience the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, which is a series of suspension bridges and elevated decks stretching up to 30 metres high through the jungle's mid-level canopy at 154 metres total. Look for macaws, toucans, Red Howler Monkeys, orchids, and bromeliads while up there. By evening you'll head back to River Lodge for dinner with views of the Essequibo River.

Indian House Island and Departure
There's an optional early morning boat trip around Indian House Island at dawn if you want to spot butterflies, snakes, macaws, and listen to Tinamou calls plus various swallows singing. After breakfast, you have two main options: depart heading north back to Georgetown, or stay and visit other tourist sites in the Rupununi area if that interests you more.
