I spent a great deal of money on a trip to Mongolia with World Expeditions. I signed up for a trip to the Gobi Desert with this tour organizer and it was horrid. I regret that I booked the trip. The tour leader was only interested in our "resting." On day 1 we were told to "rest" for 3 hours in the afternoon. We then watched a film and were told to "rest" for another 2 hours. We took a short hike and that was the extent of the activity for the remainder of the day. The second day we drove in the morning and arrived at our ger camp for lunch and then were told to "rest" until dinner. We left for a hike on the sand dunes at 7:30 p.m., arriving there an hour later and had barely enough time to make it to the top before sunset and darkness. Day 3 we took a 45 min. camel ride on filthy, horribly treated camels. (Out guide tried to charge an additional fee for this camel trek. We explained that the trek was included in our fees and had to get out emails and paperwork to convince her.) That afternoon we were expected to "rest" before a trip to a local Nadaam festival organized for tourists and we got there so late that we saw very little of the events. This remainder of the trip was more of the same--few activities and recommendations to "rest." I responded to World Expeditions post-trip online survey about my disappointing experience and heard NOTHING in return. I sent an email to the tour company and again heard nothing. Don't bother with this company. They are really expensive and there is competition so check reviews and choose another one.
World Expeditions commented on this review
Dear J HIll, Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gobi Desert Explorer. We were of course very concerned to read that the trip did not meet with your expectations. By way of background, we have been operating our trips in Mongolia for more than a decade very successfully and consistently with positive client feedback. We are therefore very surprised to read about your experiences on this trip. We can assure you that the matter has been thoroughly investigated and addressed with our partners in Mongolia, detecting that the quality of guiding was not up to our normal standard. By way of explanation, Mongolia is experiencing a mining and energy boom that coincides with a significant spike in tourism numbers. From a human resources point of view, the industries are competing for qualified and quality personnel. A detailed response has been sent to you directly and we hope this illustrates our focus on addressing all feedback, both positive and negative, in the appropriate manner. Sincerely - Sarah Higgins | Asia Operations Manager

I love Tour Radar. They gave me all the support when I needed contacting the agent themselves to solve my problems while I was on the trip. The response was always quick and I also got the best deals, always cheaper than with the operator. Can't fault it really. Just booked my second trip with them this week.
