Itinerary
- Day 1
Porto to Sabrosa
You'll arrive at Porto Airport and then transfer to Sabrosa, a small town sitting on a plateau above the Douro River close to the Spanish border. The area is surrounded by the Douro International Natural Park with its dramatic cliffs and rocky formations. This region has its own character with the Mirandês language still spoken locally and traditional Pauliteiros de Miranda dance performances that you might encounter.

Celeirós - Fermentões
Walking through the Douro wine region starts from Celeiros and takes you past quintas, the local wine estates with their vineyards and wineries. You'll move through Sabrosa with its stately homes, some going back to medieval times, then head toward Fermentões. The views over rolling vineyards here really show you what makes this region special for wine growing.

Celeirós to Provesende
The village of Celeirós sits along rustic cobbled paths where you can see the Douro landscape with vineyards and terraced hillsides built over centuries. Later you'll reach Provesende, a well-preserved historic wine-growing village with more manor houses than anywhere else in the Douro region. Walking through the village center, you'll notice the characteristic aroma of freshly baked bread coming from local bakeries.

Pinhão - Ucanha
A medieval road connects Provesende to Pinhão, and you'll climb slopes down toward the riverbank while seeing the remarkable terraced landscapes that define this area. Once in Pinhão, the famous railway station has beautiful tile panels showing regional life and scenes. You'll take a traditional rabelo boat ride, the type of vessel that transported Port wine down the Douro for centuries, before transferring to Ucanha.

- Day 5
Ucanha
A circular route around Ucanha follows the river path with small waterfalls appearing along the way. You'll pass through small farms and pine forests, then villages with cobbled streets and typical granite houses. The 12th-century Salzedas monastery overlooks its village below, and you can cross the medieval bridge and explore the old tower that worked as a customs office until 1527. Then check out Quinta da Murganheira to see how the region produces its famous sparkling wine.

Ucanha to Lamego
Travel along small roads and paths between villages, vineyards, and apple orchards known for their fragrance. Medieval Lamego has numerous heritage sites including a castle and cistern. The main attraction is the sanctuary at the mountain top, reached by a magnificent baroque staircase with 686 steps, surrounded by lush gardens decorated with statues, obelisks, fountains, and handmade tile panels.

Lamego to Cambres
From central Lamego, you'll walk partly along one of Portugal's centuries-old pilgrim routes toward Santiago de Compostela. The journey winds through impressive vineyards and historic estates where the first large vineyards were planted in the 12th century. You'll reach Cambres near Régua, where you can visit and taste Port and Douro wines at a famous winery dating back to the 16th century.

Landmarks/POIs Lamego Cambres - Day 8
Cambres to Porto
Starting from Torre de Moncorvo, you'll walk a greenway, which is a beaten earth track on a disused railway line heading toward Pocinho. The path offers great views over the Douro River, past terraced vineyards and the mouth of the Sabor River. At the majestic railway bridge and Pocinho dam, take the train down to Porto (ticket separate), seeing terraced vineyards typical of the UNESCO World Heritage Douro Wine Region. You'll arrive at São Bento station in central Porto, one of the world's most beautiful river railway stations. From there, walk to your hotel or grab a taxi. Use your last day and night to explore Porto, visit a historic Port Wine lodge, and enjoy the local food scene.
