Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Ushuaia

You'll arrive in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, and have time to explore this Patagonian hub or wander through nearby forests if that appeals to you. There's an option to take a day trip into Tierra del Fuego's raw landscape if you want something more adventurous. In the afternoon, head to the port to board your vessel, complete the mandatory safety drill, and then set sail through the Beagle Channel into the Drake Passage.

  2. Days 2 - 3

    Drake Passage

You're crossing the Drake Passage, the water separating Patagonia and Antarctica, which can get rough with strong westerly winds. Your expedition vessel has stabilizers and a qualified crew to handle the crossing safely. Spend these days preparing with safety briefings, biosecurity procedures, and informative lectures about Antarctic exploration, wildlife, geology, and glaciology. By day three, you'll cross into the Antarctic Convergence where temperatures drop significantly and wildlife becomes more abundant.

  3. Days 4 - 6

Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands

Start exploring Antarctica in the South Shetland Islands, a rugged area with large penguin colonies and seabirds. You might visit Deception Island with its volcanic features and historic ruins, or Half Moon Island and Aitcho where penguin colonies are especially active. Head further south into the Gerlache Strait region on the Antarctic Peninsula for the iconic Antarctic landscape. Landing sites change based on weather and ice conditions, decided by your Expedition Leader and Captain. Early spring brings penguins building nests and competing for mates, winter sea ice, rare sunsets, and great snowshoeing. Evening briefings keep you informed about upcoming activities.

The itinerary was amazing. We had perfect weather and were able to get out on the zodiacs or land twice a day when we were near land. We even had a landing on an iceberg
