- Day 1
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park
You'll leave Nairobi early and head down into the Great Rift Valley, stopping at scenic lookout points along the way. By mid-morning you'll arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park for a game drive in specialized safari vehicles. Lions, rhinos, buffalo, and leopards roam the park, and you'll also see the famous flamingo flocks that gather on the lake.

- Day 2
Lake Nakuru to Eldoret
The drive takes you from Nakuru to Eldoret, Kenya's fifth largest town. You'll cross the Equator from the Southern to Northern Hemisphere with a photo stop to mark the moment. After arriving at camp on Eldoret's outskirts, you have free time to visit the nearby Sirikwa holes, which are primitive dwellings left behind by an ancient tribe.

Eldoret to Kampala, Uganda
You'll cross the border from Kenya into Uganda, a country Winston Churchill called the 'Pearl of Africa'. The drive takes you through lush rolling hills, past tribal villages and growing towns. By evening you'll reach Kampala, Uganda's capital, where you'll spend the night.

Kampala to Chimpanzee Trekking Area
After crossing the Equator again, you'll travel through fertile green hills and tangled forests toward your next camp. Along the way you'll see herds of Ankole cattle with their distinctive long curving horns roaming the countryside. Your evening is free to relax, take walks in the surrounding areas, and spend time getting to know the local community.

Kalinzu Forest or Kyambura Gorge
Today focuses on searching for chimpanzees in their natural forest habitat. Unlike mountain gorillas, chimps live primarily in the trees, so you'll spend time gazing up into the dense forest canopy to spot them. It's a different kind of wildlife viewing experience, watching these close relatives of humans in the wild.

- Days 6 - 8
Chimpanzee Trekking Area to Lake Bunyonyi
You'll drive to Lake Bunyonyi, a beautiful area dotted with islands and surrounded by lush forest and rolling hills. Over the next three days, smaller groups will take turns trekking into Bwindi National Park or occasionally Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to see mountain gorillas. Each trek lasts from 30 minutes to 6 or 7 hours, with about an hour spent observing the gorillas from a safe distance. On non-trekking days, you can join optional boat trips to islands, go bird-watching, visit villages, or try canoe paddling.

Kampala to Jinja
A short drive brings you to Jinja, a city in southern Uganda situated on the banks of Lake Victoria at the source of the River Nile. From here, the Nile flows 5,584 kilometers through 11 countries to reach the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt. You'll camp beside the river with access to numerous optional activities like quad biking, white water rafting, Nile cruises, fishing, mountain biking, and volunteering opportunities at local schools.

You'll cross back into Kenya and make your way south to Eldoret, retracing part of your earlier route but heading in the opposite direction.

Or simply take the time to relax and enjoy some downtime.

Nairobi to Masai Mara
You'll leave Nairobi early and travel to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve, located adjacent to the Serengeti and part of one of the world's last surviving great wildernesses. You'll stay in twin-share pre-erected tents with ensuite facilities on the reserve's edge. Morning and afternoon game drives follow, searching for huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, antelope, plus predators, rhinos, elephants, and giraffes.

Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania
You'll cross the Kenya-Tanzania border at Namanga and drive to Arusha, arriving late afternoon. This city sits in the shadow of Mount Meru and serves as Tanzania's safari capital, with good access to the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater nearby. If time allows, you can browse local markets and take a walk through a traditional Masai village before reaching your accommodation at the Meserani Snake Park.

Arusha to Serengeti National Park
You'll transfer to specialized safari vehicles and cross the Great Rift Valley, driving around the rim of the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater before heading onto the Serengeti plains. 'Serengeti' means 'the place where the land moves on forever' in Maasai, and the scale of this wilderness is as impressive as the wildlife. You'll search for the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope, along with the predators that follow them. Your camp is unfenced, allowing you to hear bush sounds and potentially spot wildlife throughout the night.

Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha
On day 21, you'll continue game driving through the Serengeti searching for any species not yet spotted, then travel back to the Ngorongoro Crater to camp on its rim. The following day, you'll make the steep, winding descent into the crater itself for a game drive where you have the chance to spot nearly every major African animal except giraffes, who can't climb the steep rim. After lunch you'll pack up and travel back to Arusha to rejoin the overland vehicle.

Today it's known for dhow building, and you'll camp on the outskirts near palm-fringed Indian Ocean beaches.

Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam
You'll leave Bagamoyo and drive 2 to 3 hours along the coast to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's main port and a vibrant mix of culture. The city features impressive Arab architecture, colorful markets, beautiful beaches, and turquoise ocean views. You'll stay by the beach tonight before heading to Zanzibar the next day.

Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar
On day 25 morning, you'll take the ferry to Zanzibar, leaving the overland truck on the mainland. You'll spend day 25 exploring Stone Town, the historic old part of Zanzibar City with its romantic winding cobbled alleys. Days 26 and 27 are spent at the northern beaches where you'll have plenty of free time to visit spice plantations, relax on tropical beaches, and snorkel along the coast. Optional excursions include massages and yacht trips.

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park Area
You'll head southwest back inland toward the Malawi border, driving through Mikumi National Park, Tanzania's fifth-largest game reserve. With some luck, you'll spot wildlife throughout the day. You'll stay at accommodation right on the park's edge with the option of an additional game drive to search for elephants and giraffes, or simply relax in the local bar, restaurant, or by the campfire.

Mikumi National Park Area to Iringa
You'll continue south through Baobab Valley, which is home to many ancient, swollen baobab trees. After that you'll reach the town of Iringa and arrive at Kisolanza Farm, a family-run business in the scenic Southern Highlands of Tanzania that supplies Dar es Salaam with organic meat and vegetables.

Mbeya to Chitimba
You'll cross the Songwe border from Tanzania into Malawi and arrive at Chitimba, which sits right on the shores of Lake Malawi. The afternoon and evening are yours to settle in and explore the area. The beach is a good spot to relax and take in the water, and the village itself is worth a walk around to get a feel for the place. Head to the local craft market where there's quite a bit going on. You can try your hand at woodcarving if you're interested, learn how to play Bao (a traditional board game that takes some practice), or just browse through the handmade items on offer. It's a low-key day focused on getting acclimated and connecting with the local community.

On day 33, you'll drive through rubber plantations to Mzuzu, the capital of Malawi's northern region and the country's third largest town. Day 34 is free to try optional activities like kayaking, snorkeling, taking a village walk, or hiking to a waterfall, or simply relax in the warm fresh waters of the lake.
