We are an energetic bunch and always aim to spend as much time off the bus as possible. Whether it’s exploring a castle, climbing to the top of a mountain or swimming in legendary Loch Ness, we like to get up close and personal with our country. We take you to all the hidden gems that you won’t find in the guidebooks to give you a feel of the real Scotland. In the evenings, we'll welcome you to our award-winning hostels, giving you the opportunity to socialise and make friends with fellow travellers over a meal or a pint at the local pub. Unlike many of our competitors, we are 100% Scottish and independent - so you can be sure you'll have an authentically Scottish and genuinely unforgettable experience with us. - Do you arrange airport transfers?
Airport transfers are not available on this tour, which means that you will have to make your own way to and from the airport.
- What are the optional excursions?
The tour operator has advised that there are no optional excursions available for this tour.
- Do I need a visa?
As a tour booking website, TourRadar cannot organise visas for you on your behalf as the visa requirements are regularly being updated and vary for the nationality of one traveller to the next. It is for this reason that we recommend checking with your local embassy or consulate website for the latest up to date information.
- Is there a hotel list available?
The price of this tour does not include accommodation. Instead, the tour operator reserves dorm beds in their Highland hostels for everybody whilst on tour. The dormitories are between 4 and 10 beds and can be mixed gender or - on request - single-sex only. The bathrooms are all shared. They always try to keep the tours to themselves but it can happen that you will share with other people as well.
Your accommodation in dorm style rooms is guaranteed and you just pay either with cash or by credit card on arrival. Prices range from £18 to £24 per night.
Usually, accommodations are subject to change until 4-6 weeks before the departure date, however, this is a list of accommodations that they typically stay at:

Hopefully, this list will give you a better idea of what kind of accommodation you can expect while on tour. - What does the tour price include?
The tour price includes a Scottish tour guide and the bus transport as per the itinerary.
Unless otherwise stated, accommodation is not included in the price of the tour but a room is guaranteed for you whilst on tour, MacBackpackers reserve a bed for you in each backpacker hostel they stay at. You will therefore be asked to pay on arrival at the hostels.You can pay for your accommodation with either cash or credit/debit card.
The price of the tour doesn’t include food. However, you will make supermarket stops every day and each of the hostels has a well-equipped kitchen for al guests to use. There will also be pubs and restaurants near each hostel if you feel like eating out in the evening. - What is the age range?
This trip is designed for 18 to 40-year-olds. People on this tour are usually travelling on their own and are looking to meet new people and have fun. Children and young people under the age of 18 and over the age of 40 are not eligible to participate in this tour.
- Are the flights included?
Flights before and after the tour are not included in the tour price. You will be responsible for booking your flights to meet with the group at the starting city. We do not recommend booking airfare before confirming your tour.
- Is there any available luggage stores with this tour?
If you are staying at one of MacBackpacker's Edinburgh hostels you can ask the staff if you can leave your things in the luggage store but If you are not staying in one of those hostels then please arrive slightly earlier for your tour and ask the staff in the hostel you are staying in if you can keep your things on the luggage store.
- What can I expect from the coaches?
The fleet of Mercedes Benz 16-27 seat mini-coaches have everything you would expect; heating, air conditioning, reclining seats, seat belts and plenty of Scottish music! They are safe and modern and are low emission Euro 5 compliant.
- Do you have guaranteed departures?
As the tour is popular generally all the tours usually always go out all year round however for more specific information about a departure please contact us.
