There were 15 of us in our group, with ages ranging from 30's to 70's. They were an interesting mix of people who melded well and were very supportive of each other. We were ably lead by our attractive French/Canadian female guide, she was quiet, tactful and resourceful, but a strong leader. We travelled through some fascinating scenery, with the expected cultural differences of food and lifestyle and amazing historical sights in China and Russia to the totally unexpected and hitherto unknown delights of Mongolia and its iconic Nadaam Festival. Our food was varied and wholesome, we ate the local fare and enjoyed it, esp the Mongolian barbeque and the Peking Duck. We had to supply our own meals on one of the train journeys, noodles, soup and dehydtrated meals were the go as all the trains supplied hot water from samovars bubbling over wood fires in each carriage. The highlight for me was the Nadaam Festival, from the colourful opening ceremony with the Mongol hordes on horseback charging around the arena to the beautifully dressed dancers and the warriors in their tribal finery. We watched archery, wrestling, knuckles(flicking animal's knuckles at a target)needs to be seen to be believed and horse racing. With the added excitement of a huge traffic jam driving back into Ulan Baatar - at times, up to 12 lanes travelling one way. Our Mongolian local guide was a delightful young lady who spoke good English with a charming lisp, but absolutely bubbled over with love for her country, which made us all fall in love with her and Mongolia. Our accommodation was of a good standard, we were in hotels in China, a mix of hotels and 3 gers stays in Mongolia and hotels in Russia. The most memorable was at Lake Bakail in Siberia, perched on the side of a hill with the hills in front forming a v shape view over the lake giving us memorable sunsets. A wonderful cultural journey through vast, unspoilt countryside and teeming cities.

What are people saying about TourRadar?

  • James12th May 2018
I was able to sort through the various trips until I found a couple I wanted to take. After I booked I misjudged the travel time between when one tour ended and when I had to get to the next one (I didn't realize there were no evening flights where I was). TourRadar was great in connecting me with the tour operator and they were in turn great with helping me change the itinerary so I could do both trips without any extra hassle.
