Just a few words to say thanks to you and Sundowners for a great trip - it really went smoothly. Not a thing out of place, all transfers and guides were in place on time and all working well. Briefly - the itinerary was good, the accom spot on, transport better than expected, organisation remarkable (to get all those local people to turn up even when we were long overdue). The Silk Road is an ill-defined, and ellusive phenomina, since I was a kid it fascinated me. I did'nt find the old camel tracks but the feeling, the smells and the romance linger yet. More time would have been great but not practical. We were welcomed in every country we visited. Iran must rate as the most friendly country, (and the least understood), we have visited. Each country has its own distinctive culture and zealously protects the differences. Diana was a prize, a mother hen, well organised, energetic, a friend and a delightful woman. We have no complaints whatsoever. You are welcome to ask any questions. Thanks again, Rebecca. Very best regards, Kerry and David

This was my second tour with Sundowners having previously enjoyed the Trans-Siberian in 2008. Five adventurers, an engaging and ever vigilant Group Leader plus a variety of knowledgable local guides made for a great experience. With the right attitude and a sense of humour this is one of the world's great adventures. My wife and I are both over 60 and have travelled extensively - everything from camping under the stars in the Simpson Desert to three nights in a lake view room at the Chateau Lake Louise. We both agree that this adventure was our most enjoyable. Not for couch potatoes - if you want to lie back by the pool in 7 star luxury, do yourself, your fellow travellers and the people of Central Asia a favour and take a 'holiday' in Dubai. If you like to experience new cultures, enjoy the challenge of meeting and communicating with people who generally speaking cannot uderstand a word you are saying, enjoy stepping out of your comfort zone a little on occasions and can smile when the border guards don't know how to - this is the adventure for you. Put aside any preconceived ideas you might have about Iran or the 'Stans and go see them for yourself - you will discover a world of cultural history and incredibly engaging people. AND you won't find any company more efficient than Sundowners at coordinating an adventure through Central Asia or Russia. We rated this experience 11/10 and like Macarthur, we will return. Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

  • July 1, 2016

How do the cabins for a couple traveling together on this tour look like?

The rooms are booked on a twin/double share basis. So for a couple on the trains you would be sharing with 2 other travellers. We do not have the 2 berth upgrade for many of our Central Asian journeys as there are quite a few legs where 2 berth (or sole use of 4 berth) is not available.
