Whether it’s exploring a castle, climbing to the top of a mountain or swimming in legendary Loch Ness, we like to get up close and personal with our country. We take you to all the hidden gems that you won’t find in the guidebooks to give you a feel of the real Scotland. In the evenings, we'll welcome you to our award-winning hostels, giving you the opportunity to socialise and make friends with fellow travellers over a meal or a pint at the local pub. Unlike many of our competitors, we are 100% Scottish and independent - so you can be sure you'll have an authentically Scottish and genuinely unforgettable experience with us. - When and where does the tour end?
Depending on traffic and weather conditions the tour usually returns to Castlerock Hostel in Edinburgh (15 Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2PW) between 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm during the winter season (November to March) and 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm during the summer season (April to October). It's time to say farewell to your newfound friends and continue your travels! Please note that the ending point is subject to change until your final documents are released and that you should always check your email confirmation for return time and location.
- When and where does the tour start?
This tour leaves Edinburgh at Castle Rock Hostel (15 Johnston Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2PW) at 9 am between April and October and at 8 am between November and March. It's time to start your 3-day adventure in the search for Loch Ness! Please be aware that the meeting point and time is subject to change until final documents are released, and you should always check your email confirmation for exact departure time and location.
- Do you arrange airport transfers?
Unfortunately, MacBackpackers does not provide transfers from or to Glasgow or Edinburgh, but please note that both cities are quite well connected. There are trains and buses that leave almost every half an hour.
- What are the optional excursions?
The tour operator has advised that there are no optional excursions available for this tour, as the itinerary is already packed with great inclusions.
- Can you assist with booking additional accommodation?
Of course, we can! Once you have a confirmed booking on this tour, we can request additional accommodation for you with the tour operator.
- What is the age range?
This trip is designed exclusively for 18 to 40-year-olds, which means that children and people outside of the age range are not eligible to participate in this tour. People on this tour are usually travelling on their own and are looking to meet new people and have fun backpacker style.
- I'm a solo traveller, is there a single supplement?
This tour is mostly designed for backpackers and young budget travellers who are happy to share a room with their fellow travellers to save some money and for the fun of it, which means that there is not a single supplement available for this tour. That being said, you are welcome to book your own private accommodation whilst on tour, as long as you inform the tour operator.
- Is there a hotel list available?
The price of this tour does not include accommodation. Instead, the tour operator reserves dorm beds in their Highland hostels for everybody whilst on tour. Accommodation on this tour is made in backpacker hostels, in multi-share dormitories (bunk-beds). All the hostels have a self-catering kitchen so if you don't fancy going out to the local pubs or restaurants for a meal you can cook yourself. Your accommodation in dorm style rooms is guaranteed and you just pay either with cash or by credit card on arrival.
- Do I need a visa?
As a tour booking website, TourRadar cannot organise visas for you on your behalf as the visa requirements are regularly being updated and vary for the nationality of one traveller to the next. It is for this reason that we recommend checking with your local embassy or consulate website for the latest up to date information.
- Are the flights included?
Flights before and after the tour are not included in the tour price and you need to arrange these separately by yourself once your tour is guaranteed. As we specialise in organising the best tours around the world for you, we are unable to advise on flight prices or book flights on your behalf.
