I had a great time travelling the 5 ‘stans of Central Asia with Kalpak. I chose this destination out of curiosity and was impressed with how stunning and culturally rich the area is. Mountains, canyons, mosques, monuments and everything in between! I can see this area really pick up as a tourist attraction over the coming years and decades. They’re weird and wonderful nations. Luca and Aijan Lasser ensured that our trip went smoothly and were especially helpful in sorting the appropriate visas. I can’t remember a single email that wasn’t replied to within 1-2 days. I’d also like to share to any prospective travellers just how safe I felt in the ‘stans. I think it’s the first region I’ve visited where I wasn’t hassled for money or for being a woman during my entire time there. This meant I felt safer having freedom to explore on my own terms. I highly recommend the area and Kalpak for an intrepid adventure and a truly unique experience.

If you're contemplating going to Central Asia, do not even bother considering the other companies. I dealt with them, and the most popular seem fine, but if you want unsurpassed service, then go with Kalpak. In all of my travels, and indeed, in other aspects of life, I have rarely seen the level of service provided by Kalpak. Luca, the co-owner, makes himself available 24/7, no matter your timezone. I firmly believe that he doesn't sleep! Aside from the outstanding service, what sets this company apart is you get the benefit of a Western point of view as to what is a must-see, vs. what you can miss without too many regrets; this is extremely helpful if you have limited time. We had a perfect trip with a mix of nature and culture, from hiking in the mountains in Kyrgyzstan, to attending a ballet at the Navoi theatre Tashkent. Luca even arranged to have hiking poles for us. I'm a pescatarian and was worried about what I was going to eat in The Land of Meat. However, I went in September, and the multitude of fresh produce was not only unsurpassed taste-wise, but Luca made sure that I had options wherever I ate. It turned out to be a delicious culinary trip as well. Do yourself a kindness and go with Kalpak; you don't know me, but you'll thank me.

I travelled with Kalpak recently on their Best of Central Asia trip and I must say that the whole trip exceeded my expectations. First of all, all my queries were answered promptly and the booking process was straightforward. Everything seemed to be organized well and all the guides we had in each country were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We stayed at a variety of accommodations - from luxury hotels, family run guesthouse and yurts. Kazakhstan excels with their modern glitzy buildings while Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have mountains and lakes that make your jaw drop. Uzbekistan in the other hand is full of interesting and photogenic historical madrassas. I feel safe throughout the whole trip and the people were generally friendly. Besides that, travelling with a small group of like-minded people is more fun than doing it alone. I would definitely recommend using Kalpak Travel to anyone who is thinking of visiting Central Asia.
