Adventure Tours & Trips in Colombia
Think Colombia's adventure scene is underrated? Never! You’re white-water rafting near San Gil, paragliding in Chicamocha Canyon, hiking to Ciudad Perdida, rock climbing, and canyoning. Try Cocora Valley for hiking among wax palms, and Tatacoa Desert for stark landscapes. The country's geographic diversity, including Caribbean, Pacific, Andes, and Amazon, means adventure variety rivals anywhere in South America.

Overall, this tour was really excellent. We added 3 days to the 11 day advertised tour to make a 2 week vacation and felt like we experienced all the best highlights of Colombia. “The Colombia Trip” took care of all the arrangements including our addit and the organization was extremely smooth. Everything was totally private and we had excellent guides with us at each location. They had good English and were very knowledgeable about each place we visited. The 5 stops we had - 1 Bogota/Zipaquirá, 2 Salento/Cocora, 3 Medillin/Guatape 4 Tayrona and 5 Cartagena were all excellent, different and very worthwhile - I wouldn’t change a thing. A couple things to be aware of when planning - the altitude and hence weather conditions in the different locations are considerably different so you need to be prepared for all scenarios and yet you change hotels quite often so need to pack relatively light. Also climbing the rock at Guatape is not for those with vertigo and the Tayrona hike whilst not too long or too difficult - and well worth it - is very tough in the heat and humidity. Overall Colombia is still discovering being a tourist destination which means it’s mostly unspoiled however a Spanish phrase book is a must for when your guide is not with you. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this mostly undiscovered yet beautiful country to all fellow travelers…..Favorite spot? That’s tough as it was all so different and amazing but ..probably Cocora valley!

What our customers ask about Adventure Tours & Trips in Colombia
When is the best time to go on an Adventure tour in Colombia?
Colombia's adventure season peaks at different times across its regions. The Caribbean coast and Tayrona National Park see the best weather from December to March with clear skies and lower humidity. The Coffee Region welcomes visitors year-round maintaining steady temperatures near 70°F (21°C). For mountain treks in the Sierra Nevada near Santa Marta January through March provide the most reliable conditions. One TourRadar traveler noted "The weather was perfect for our trek through Tayrona making the hiking and beach experiences incredible." Plan to avoid October and November when parks like Tayrona close for their annual ecological recovery period.
What are the must-see Adventure highlights in Colombia?
Key adventure destinations in Colombia center around natural wonders. The coastal trails of Tayrona National Park lead to secluded beaches while multi-day treks to Ciudad Perdida reveal ancient ruins. In the Cocora Valley travelers walk among wax palms that reach heights unmatched anywhere else in the world. The Coffee Region presents opportunities for both hiking and horseback riding with stays at working farms like La Victoria. A TourRadar traveler shares: "The combination of Tayrona's wilderness river tubing in Buritaca and hiking to waterfalls in Minca created the perfect adventure mix - each day brought something new and exciting."
What kind of accommodation can I expect on Colombia Adventure tours?
Sleeping arrangements on Colombian adventures range from city luxury to wilderness basics. Cartagena offers colonial-style hotels like Don Pedro de Heredia while Ciudad Perdida treks include nights in hammocks at basic camps with mosquito protection. Coffee Region tours often feature stays in traditional haciendas. Places like El Rio Hostel in Buritaca bridge the gap between comfort and natural settings. According to one TourRadar traveler: "The mix of accommodations added to the adventure - from luxury hotels in Cartagena to camping under the stars in Tayrona."
How challenging are the hiking trails in Colombia's national parks?
Trail difficulty in Colombia spans all skill levels. Tayrona National Park features moderate paths with 2-3 hour walks to spots like Cabo San Juan. The Lost City trek demands more endurance with 4-6 hours of daily hiking and steep climbs. El Cocuy National Park tests hikers with paths reaching 4400 meters above sea level. Most tours including those from El Rio Hostel provide options for different abilities. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The trails in Tayrona were well-marked and manageable though the humidity makes even moderate hikes more challenging."
What unique Adventure activities can I experience in Colombia?
Colombia's adventure offerings extend beyond hiking. The Magdalena River provides white-water rafting while the Coffee Region's terrain suits horseback exploration. Buritaca offers river tubing experiences. Cultural adventures include visits to indigenous communities near Katanzama coffee farm tours at La Victoria and waterfall hikes around Minca. One TourRadar traveler recalls: "From snorkeling in the Rosario Islands to hiking through cloud forests in Minca each day brought new adventures and challenges."
What wildlife might I encounter during Colombia Adventure tours?
Colombia's varied landscapes host diverse wildlife populations. Tayrona National Park houses howler monkeys toucans and various reptiles. The Coffee Region attracts numerous bird species. Near La Macarena pink river dolphins swim in Amazon waters. Locations like Caoba wildlife reserve increase chances of animal sightings. As shared by a TourRadar traveler: "We saw incredible wildlife during our trek - from colorful birds in the Coffee Region to monkeys in Tayrona's jungle."
