Cover the big four: upper legs, arms, shoulders, and cleavage<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As a general best practice, assume these four main areas should be covered. If where you\u2019re visiting is hot, consider packing clothes that are breathable so you remain comfortable and covered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bring a scarf<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bring your own feminine hygiene products <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a lot easier to pack some extras just in case than it is trying to explain to a pharmacist that you\u2019re in need. For any women who travel, menstrual cups have become the product of choice due to their adaptability, discreetness and reusability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t wander alone at night<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This advice goes without saying for any woman anywhere. It\u2019s not a good idea to put yourself in a situation that could become dangerous, so travel with others if you want to go out at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avoid direct physical contact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It seems like a strange piece of advice, but even a friendly arm touch to say thank you could be misinterpreted. Don\u2019t be afraid to be friendly with the locals, but do respect the \u201ctouch barrier\u201d and keep physical contact to a minimum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t draw attention to yourself<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lots of women who travel are naturally outgoing and confident, but in the Middle East, women are reserved, “lady-like” in the traditional sense, and more or less quiet. Overly outgoing behaviour can make you seem aggressive, so try to remain at the same level of reservation as your local female counterparts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find the \u201cFamily Section\u201d in restaurants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While you may not notice it at first, many Middle Eastern countries have family sections and a section only for men in restaurants and public transportation. To avoid the irritation of locals, opt for the family section whenever you can. They tend to be more comfortable anyway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re with a boyfriend, say he\u2019s your husband<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is a suggestion that\u2019s entirely up to each woman, but travelling or staying in the same hotel room as a boyfriend is not widely accepted in the Middle East. It\u2019s a lot easier to say you\u2019re married if you\u2019re travelling with a boyfriend or even a male friend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
