Various political situations in countries such as <a href=\"\/d\/nicaragua\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Nicaragua (opens in a new tab)\">Nicaragua<\/a> have led to concerns regarding the safety of travellers and whether or not a visit to this tropical paradise is actually a good idea. While, unfortunately, bad things can happen everywhere, travellers who carefully research their destination and take certain safety precautions should be able to relax and enjoy their time in Central America. With that in mind, we\u2019ve put together a list of some of the safest cities in Central America. <\/p>\n\n\n<div>\r\n<hr style=\"width: 100px; height: 2px; border: 0; background-color: #222; margin-left: 0; opacity: 1\" >\r\n<p><em>Travel to: <\/em><strong><a href=\"\/b\/central-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Central America <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\r\n<hr style=\"width: 100px; height: 2px; border: 0; background-color: #222; margin-left: 0; opacity: 1\" ><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety tips for travelling to Central America<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Be aware of your surroundings. <\/strong>As always, using common sense tactics like not flashing cash, sticking to well-lit areas, keeping your belongings close to your body, and avoiding exploring solo at night will greatly improve your safety while travelling.<\/li><li><strong>Keep things official. <\/strong>Avoid taking anyone up on an offer to help, regardless of how well-meaning they may seem. Only take official taxis (they\u2019ll have registry numbers and will often be red and yellow in colour), withdraw or exchange money only in banks or official offices, and avoid looking too much like a \u201ctourist,\u201d as this could put a target on your back for pick-pocketers and other petty criminals. <\/li><li><strong>Take local advice. <\/strong>The staff at your hotel or hostel, or your tour guide if you\u2019re travelling on a group tour, will know exactly where and where not to go for the best experience. If one of them tells you to avoid an area, carefully consider the warning.<\/li><li><strong>Join a group tour. <\/strong>As always, one of the safest ways to explore a new place is to join a group tour.
