Granada <\/b><\/h3>\n

It\u2019s impossible to ignore the lure of The Alhambra (a breathtaking Moorish palace) when talking about Granada. However, this city boasts far more than just one-star attraction. There\u2019s street art. Brilliant tapas bars. Vibrant gardens. Intricate architecture and historic cathedrals. The best part is that every one of these sites is just as beautiful in winter as they are in summer. Due to Granada\u2019s location at the bottom of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the temperatures from December to February will average between 9-11\u00b0C, but the blue skies will make up for the cooler weather. <\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget to look out for the snow-draped peaks that surround the city, and if you\u2019re a skier or winter-sports enthusiast, the country\u2019s best ski resorts are just an hour\u2019s drive away.<\/span><\/p>\n

Northern Spain <\/b><\/h2>\n

Barcelona <\/b><\/h3>\n

As one of the most exciting cities in Europe, some would argue that Barcelona is best explored in winter and it\u2019s hard to deny that this city is filled plenty of with sights to keep you entertained \u2013 especially on rainy days. With mild temperatures that vary between 11-13\u00b0C, you can hit the streets to visit the Sagrada Fam\u00edlia<\/a>, Park G\u00fcell, Casa Mil\u00e0 and the Casa Batll\u00f3. Spend time tucked away inside a bar on Las Ramblas watching the world go by and later go on a hunt for the best paella. If you find yourself in Barcelona in late December, don\u2019t miss the New Year\u2019s spectacle at the Pla\u00e7a d\u2019Espanya or the must-see Three Kings parade on the night of January 5th. Madrid <\/b><\/h3>\n

How could you not love Madrid? As the capital city of Spain, located in the centre of Spain, the summer months see the city packed with visitors, whereas the winter months are the complete opposite. For a glimpse into the lives of the royals, look no further than the Royal Palace in Madrid or check out the vintage stores and flea markets in Malasa\u00f1a or the El Rastro Market in La Latina. If you find yourself in Madrid in December; you\u2019re in for a treat as the city will be covered in Christmas lights and hosts an incredible fiesta on New Year\u2019s Eve at the Puerto del Sol. And if it does get too chilly, make sure you visit Chocolater\u00eda San Gin\u00e9s. This famous Spanish\u00a0caf\u00e9<\/span>\u00a0has been serving delicious treats since 1894, and you can warm up with fresh churros dipped in hot chocolate. Just don\u2019t expect Madrid to be warm, as the temperature in January in particular ranges from 6-10\u00b0C.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bilbao <\/b><\/h3>\n

Winter in Bilbao means fewer crowds, lower prices, and it is an excellent time to take in the local culture, cosy up in the many hidden caf\u00e9s, and spend hours admiring world-class museums and galleries. Even if you make the journey to Bilbao purely to go to the Frank Gehry designed Guggenheim Museum<\/a>, nobody will fault you for it. Aside from museums being the perfect place to retreat to when the temperature drops, over winter you won\u2019t have to contend with lines out the door or queues to the best exhibitions. It will be cool, but sunny, so you\u2019ll find plenty of things to do both indoors and out. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

San Sebastian<\/b><\/h3>\n

Located in the mountainous\u00a0<\/span>Basque Country<\/a>, San Sebastian is a resort town known for the famous La Playa de la Concha. While it might be too cold to spend your days lazing on the beach, but with the blue skies and temperatures around 10-13\u00b0C, it will hardly feel like a harsh winter. In San Sebastian, there are more Michelin-starred restaurants then you could hope for, and the culinary scene is by no means weather dependent, food lovers won’t be short of things to do (or eat).<\/p>\n
