Tips

  • Greet the locals by saying ‘Assalaam alaikum’ or ‘salaam’ which means ‘peace be with you’.
  • Avoid wearing shorts or sleeveless clothes when entering places of worship such as mosques and shrines. It is mandatory for women to cover their head with a scarf.
  • Use your right hand while eating, shaking hands and giving or receiving anything.
  • Avoid traveling in the month of Ramadan as most shops and restaurants will be closed until dusk.
  • Though Urdu is the national language, many people speak English so you won’t have trouble communicating with the locals.
  • Some dishes in the local cuisine may be very spicy. Your tour guide will help you understand the ingredients so you can order the right meal.
  • Summers in Pakistan can be hot with temperatures soaring to 40°C and 50°C in June and July.
  • Drink bottled water (called mineral water) as tap water can be unsafe for drinking.
