Best Things to Do in Croatia
Imagine gazing out over the Adriatic on a pavilion bordered by Renaissance gardens that look like they were hand-picked from Tuscany! Well, you don't have to travel to Italy - just a short drive from Dubrovnik lies the enchanting fishing village of Trsteno, whose arboretum is world-famous (thanks to Game of Thrones!) You can't help but feel like royalty on a stroll through this wonderfully wild landscape as citrus scents fill the air.
Hidden amongst the Mediterranean-scented pine forests of Dugi Otok Island is a white-sandy beach with a Caribbean flair! Sakarun is something out of a dream - the gentle slope, the crystal clear waters, and tiki sunshades are that of a secluded island retreat perfect for a romantic getaway. The tropical ambience in the heart of Europe makes this one of the best beaches in Croatia and more than worthy of a day trip from Zadar.
With a swashbuckling history and a fierce reputation back in the middle ages, Omiš is now a tiny town full of adventure. From canoeing and canyoning to rafting and ziplining, there's no shortage of fun to be had. If you're not after an adrenaline rush, then the golden beaches and aquamarine waters are a real treat. Venture up the fortress-dotted mountains for a look inside the town's pirate past, me hearties!
Biševo Blue Cave
Rivalling Capri's Blue Grotto, Croatia houses its own cerulean wonder. In the heart of the Adriatic lies the island of Biševo with a shoreline full of secluded beaches and hidden coves, one of which illuminates with an iridescent blue glow. The Blue Cave is mesmerising as a crack of sunlight ignites its sapphire shades. Whilst you can't swim in it, the nearby Green Cave on Vis is just as inviting with its emerald hues!
Sail on the Adriatic
With more than 1,000 islands to sail between, exploring tucked away spots of the Adriatic by boat is an excellent way to unwind on your Croatian vacation.
Tuck Into Black Risotto
Black risotto is a delicious must-try dish when in Croatia. Named by its colour from squid ink, this risotto also contains mussels and clams - a treat for seafood lovers out there!
Swim in Waterfalls
If you've dreamt of swimming in a blue lagoon behind sparkling waterfalls, then Krka National Park will bring your fantasies to life! With seven waterfalls, a dip in this natural oasis is calling your name.
Relax on Zlatni Rat
Take a break on the aptly-named golden shores of Zlatni Rat Beach. As the best beach in Croatia, these sapphire-blue waters are a perfect way to cool off on the island of Brač.
Discover Legendary Caves
Sail over to the island of Mljet and follow the trail that leads to Odysseys Cave, a magical cliffside beach where Odysseys himself was rumoured to have been shipwrecked.
Walk the Famed Walls
Fans of Game Of Thrones will recognise this ancient walled city as Kings Landing, but Dubrovnik's fortress walls provide breathtaking views for everyone, regardless of your viewing habits.
