    The weather in Bhutan is at its driest and brightest during October to December, making these the perfect months to visit. Spring can be rainy, winter can be very cold, and the summer is monsoon season in Bhutan, so it's best to plan your trip between October and December if you can.
  • How much does a trip to Bhutan cost?
    Because Bhutan is an exclusive destination, only open to visitors as part of a guided tour, it can be quite an expensive place to visit. You should budget to spend at least $300 per day on your trip.

Tips

  • The national language of Bhutan is Dzongkha. Getting by in English won’t be a problem.
  • The currency in Bhutan is the Ngultrum. Credit is not widely accepted and there are no ATM’s that accept foreign cards.
  • Tipping while not expected, is appreciated. Between 10-20% is appropriate.
  • Don’t leave Bhutan without a Buddhist painting, carved masks and mala beads.
  • Dressing modestly (long pants and long sleeved tops) is important at religious sites and anywhere that the national flag is raised.
  • Be sure to try the national dish of Ema Datshi (chilli/cheese). Water in Bhutan is not considered safe to drink.
  • Bhutan is called “The Land of Thunder Dragons” because of the violent thunderstorms that sweep through.
  • The capital city of Thimphu has no traffic lights! White-gloved officers direct the traffic.
