Tips

  • While English, French and Arabic will prove useful, a phrasebook for the local native language of the area you’re visiting is a good idea too.
  • The easiest currencies to exchange within Africa are the euro, US dollar and pound sterling.
  • Dress appropriately for the religious and cultural context of the places you’re visiting. In some countries women are expected to cover up. Be prepared for heat and cold. It’s chilly before the sun rises and after it sets.
  • Bargain your way throughout Africa particularly for souvenirs in the markets and bazaars.
  • Ask your tour guide about drinking water. Stick to bottled or boiled water in countries where the water isn’t regulated.
  • Sunblock and insect repellant are highly recommended
