During my time with the bamboo project I was lucky to have such an amazing and supportive staff to assist me. Teacher Ohm was no exception, Jida was much more than a fantastic teacher but a terrific friend. I will alway remember my wonderful time in Thailand and I will never forget Jida Ohm. She is truly an asset to the bamboo family and I was blessed to know her.

Two years ago I went to Thailand to volunteer with Bamboo! I was fresh out of college and of course, very nervous, as I was traveling across the world alone. When I arrived in Koh Samui, I was greeted by two amazing people-- Tee and Lucy! Tee's smile and laugh will brighten anyone's day. During my visit I felt so comfortable and safe knowing I had an amazing friend, who knew the language and culture so well, that I could lean back on if I needed help! One year later I decided to go back to Koh Samui for a personal trip... I unfortunately got into a motor bike accident and hurt my foot pretty bad. I was very scared considering I do not speak Thai and was not sure where to seek help. I called Tee and he was there instantly to help! He went to the store and got me medicine and cleaning supplies. He even wrapped my foot for me! Bamboo is full of such incredible, genuine people. I am thankful to have met Tee and his amazing girlfriend Lucy! ❤️

I just finished the volunteering experience with Bamboo project and I had an amazing time. From start to finish the team took such good care of us, never feeling lost or confused. Guided all the way through. Also experiencing the island and all the places was a true blast. I am very thankful, happy, fulfilled, with lots of new friendships and giving lots of stars to the team and the project.

My trip to Thailand was 100000 times better than I expected! We were given the perfect mix of work and free time. Arm and Tee were so helpful with our travel plans and not to mention great friends too. I am so grateful to have met them and worked on the bamboo project, good luck to you all.

My experience with the Bamboo Project Koh Samui building team has been incredible. I could only stay for a week and it flew by. Wish I could have stayed longer. Arm and the Bamboo staff are super passionate about what they do, friendly, and welcoming. Arm was one of our project guides, very knowleadgeable and always willing to help. Very grateful for my time in Koh Samui, everything I learned and all the great people I met. It's a program where your hard work truly makes a difference and as a bonus become part of an extended family!

The experience on the island was so much fun. Playing with the kiddos in a laid back environment made getting up in the heat so worth getting involved. And then the construction/building project was made fun while we worked hard and played music the whole time. The accommodations felt like luxury after I'd been working in Surin for two weeks with the elephants. We had actual beds in frames, with the option of a/c and a kitchen. Even having the pool outside the BB house was perfect when we didn't want to go all the way to the beach. It's only a pity when we have to help pay for gas to use the truck on top of what we've already paid for. We pay to get ourselves to the island, we pay to do the volunteering on the island, and then we even had to pay to go to anything on the island as well. I was on a tight budget so there was times when I just felt like I couldn't do anything really because then I would have to pay just to hangout. But that's just counting pennies and nickels when I'm already on a tight budget. The staff was so much fun, and they never worked us into the ground. If they could tell we were getting bored of the project we were doing but wouldn't say anything then they'd play a game with us all and get us laughing and get our spirits up again. They helped when we needed to go to the doctors, police station, etc. which I was thoroughly surprised about. And we all thanked them immensely whenever they did that. They're a very caring and honestly kind group that all treat you as a part of their family.

It was without a doubt one of the most amazing and life-changing experiences I have had! Thank you to the other beautiful volunteers and to The Bamboo Project for such a great week. The team was absolutely amazing. From my first email enquiry into volunteering with you up until my last goodbye, everyone was always so helpful and welcoming. After only 1 week I honestly felt like I had a 2nd family! A special shout out to Lucy, Arm, Tang and Tee for everything whilst I was there. Your hard work, generosity, and love for what you do honestly made this experience an ever better one! I would highly recommend The Bamboo Project to anyone considering volunteer work. With such a supportive team and so many experiences to choose from, you are pretty much guaranteed to find a program that will really enrich your life as it did mine!

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • July 18, 2016

Can you confirm that the airport pickup is included in the price?

The airport pick up is included. One of our team will be there to meet you when you arrive.

    • July 18, 2016

Is the optional Bangkok guided tour included in the price, or is it an additional expense on top?

The tour of Bangkok is included in the cost of the trip but you don't have to join it if you don't want too.

    • March 29, 2016

Can you provide more details on the accommodation? Is the Airport transfer covered in the package? And is the transfer applicable from Suvarnabhumi Airport as well as Don Mueang International Airport?

Each house sleeps around 7 and features fitted kitchen, western bathrooms, hot water, electricity, FREE WiFi and best of all, they're just a 5 minute walk to the beach!

On arrival in Bangkok we will collect you from Suvarnabhumi airport, but we're unable to offer that service from Don Mueang. If you do fly in to Don Mueang it's very easy to get to our guesthouse and would cost around 400B in a taxi ($13). You'll also get to have a night out with our team in Bangkok, a guided tour of Bangkok city and a traditional Thai welcome lunch. It's a great weekend and it's the best way to get to know your fellow volunteers who you'll travel to Samui with.
