At 19 years old I had never flown on an airplane. My hands were shaking as the flight check guy was telling me how to weigh my bag and checking my passport, I couldn't think. As I'm getting on the flight I keep thinking "What the hell am I doing going to Africa?". Two weeks later I know what I did now was the best life and most life changing thing I could ever do. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I had the money! On this trip, I felt the most unconditional love and acceptance from everyone. I never felt so connected with everything. This placed healed me. I fell in love with country somehow all of it put me back together again. Sometimes you don't need therapy you just need to get out of the country!

This is my second trip through GIVE, the first one being to Nicaragua, and my most current to Africa. To be honest I didn't think my trip to Africa could even compare to my amazing to trip to Nicaragua, but I was sorely mistaken. Each trip was incredible and unique in it's own way, and just like I did in Nicaragua, I fell head over heals in love with Tanzania. Throughout my trip in Tanzania (and Nicaragua too), all of our accommodations were wonderful. The places where we slept were very clean and maintained, had running water, EXTREMELY kind staff, and always felt very safe. Many of our places we slept had a GORGEOUS view too. From beautiful mountains to baby blue ocean views, you won't want to blink because you don't want to miss the view for a single second while at each place. I'm not a morning person either, but I made sure to get up for those breathtaking sunrises over the ocean. The food we were served throughout the trip was always delicious and authentic, and of course was enough to keep you full and satisfied every time. You CAN'T beat the fresh fruit served on Zanzibar Island. I don't think eating pineapple will ever be the same. The transportation on this trip (while not always super comfortable) was always exciting and a fun time. From dancing and singing at the top of our lungs on the open backed truck to swapping embarrassing stories on the coach bus to the safari, there was never a dull moment. I think the thing I fell in love with most about Zanzibar Island specifically was the community. The people in the community are so excited for you, as a volunteer, to be there and they love smiling and waving at your or attempting to make conversations with you in English from what they learned from English class the day before. Their eagerness to learn and their passion for life has brought a new perspective into my eyes. You see how little these people care about possessions and how much they care about each other and it makes you re-evaluate how you are living your life. It was so humbling working side-by-side with the locals in the village to help build a school as well as to see students using a classroom that we finished just the day before. We take school for granted in America, and it's amazing to see these students so eager to learn and happy to be in the classrooms. I also got the opportunity to lead the children's tutoring class, and they were full of energy and so much fun to work with. Teaching students who knew little to no English while I knew little to no Swahili was one of the most difficult things I've ever done, but also one of the most rewarding. It was so fun to hang out with the locals after volunteering was all done. The boys in the village are some of the greatest people you will ever meet, and they love getting to know you as well as telling you all about themselves and their culture. While on the island we also got the opportunity to go dolphin diving (we got so close that we could touch them... it was crazy!) as well as go sailing in the Indian Ocean and do a little snorkeling. Leaving Zanzibar Island and saying "baadaye" (later) to the locals was one of the saddest goodbyes I've ever had. Even though leaving the Island was hard, I had an incredible time on the safaris on the mainland. The guides on the safari were fun and full of great information about the land and the animals. It was incredible to see cheetahs, lions, giraffes, elephants, monkeys, zebras, and more in their own habitat instead of fenced in at a zoo. Our guides, Sammie Rothney and Sarah Levitt were WONDERFUL and great "moms" on our trip. With them, the trip went smoothly and every problem or question was taken care of or answered with ease. Once you go on a GIVE trip, you create a family with the locals, with your guides, and with the other volunteers. You meet some INCREDIBLE people on these trips that become lifelong friends. These people have amazing hearts, are extremely hardworking, and love to have fun while giving back and experiencing new cultures. Before going on this trip I was worried about funds, but I was able to raise money and let me tell you, it is worth EVERY cent spent. I highly suggest going to Tanzania or going on any of the GIVE trips.

GIVE changed my entire life. From the very first day of reaching the island of Zanzibar, I saw the world in a different light. The cliche expectations of serving others and volunteering were achieved but I had no idea that I would experience the best 2 weeks of my life. Giving is a lot more than monetary handouts. If you want to change the world, go and get your hands a little dirty. But trust me when I say that the locals will help you more than you could ever help them. Don't sit and wonder what it's like or ask others what it's like. Go. Go and give your time and effort with the best organization you could find.

My trip to Tanzania this summer completely changed my life. I fell in love with the country, the people, the culture, and the work that GIVE is continuing to do there. GIVE has given me the opportunity to make friends from all over the world. I am already planning to go back to Tanzania over Christmas break! I'm counting down the days until I get to see my GIVE family again. Make a difference, and travel with a purpose with GIVE Volunteers!

I went to Tanzania this summer and it was the best thing I have ever done. I was blown away by the people, the culture, and the country that I had the privilege of visiting. Working with the locals on their English was so much fun and extremely rewarding. In addition to the Tanzanian people being wonderful, the GIVE staff (and interns!) are some of the most incredible humans in the world. They care about the work they are doing so deeply that it is impossible to be moved by them. GIVE ensures that your physical and mental well-being are the first priority on your trip. And as if that isn't enough, GIVE provides amazing adventure activities (safari and dolphin day!!). I can't wait to go on another GIVE trip in the future!

My experience in Tanzania with GIVE volunteers was so incredible and beyond what I expected. We opened a school in a small village called Kairo, in Zanzibar. The building of the school had started 4 years previously and it was an absolute honour to be there when the classrooms were finally filled with kids. We became so immersed in the community, from working with the locals while constructing the school, being taught Swahili, painting with the local artists and having the local women braid our hair and give us henna. Beyond that, what made this trip even greater was that 41 out of 42 of the children enrolled in the school had never been to school before. It was beautiful seeing just how the community worked together to get the school ready. As part of this trip we also got to see some of Tanzania. We got to swim with dolphins, go to the Jozani monkey forest, go sailing and snorkelling and go on safari. As an optional add-on we also got to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It was a challenging but extremely rewarding experience to make it to Uhuru peak - the highest peak in Africa. I'd highly recommend going to Tanzania with GIVE as it has changed my outlook on everything and has given my life so much purpose since going.

This was my third trip with GIVE Volunteers and it's been nothing short of incredible throughout my whole experience. I would highly recommend this group to any one I meet that is even slightly interested in volunteering, traveling abroad, or looking for a deeper meaning in life. There are so many things in this world that we take for granted and it's such an eye opening experience to see the joy in others faces who have nothing close to the same opportunities you're exposed to. To be without your phone, without internet, hot water, comfy beds, socks, even shoes...it makes all the difference. I encourage everyone to step outside of your comfort zone. If you go somewhere new, where no one knows your name, and you expect nothing, you'll be astounded by the experience you'll have. There's a few people that I've met in my life that have asked me very inspirational things that I wish I could influence others on. One person asked me "When's the last time you did something for the first time?" I took that to heart and I am always eager to jump at new opportunities because who knows what kind of impact that will have on you. Also, there's a quote that says "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give". And I take this as we keep inside the norms of society by doing what we're told, working, going to school, etc. But for those who do not have the same opportunities like education or work, what do they have? I may not have the money for these trips, but I have the time to raise the money, the connections to get there, so why not? Why not expand my own personal growth and experience, and help others along the way. I was a part of the group that got the amazing experience of opening a school that has been in the making for four years. Hearing that 42 kids have been enrolled and the majority of them have never had the chance at an education before, it's truly inspiring. To be a part of something, entirely bigger than yourself, is more touching than I could explain. Even meeting these locals and kids who touch your heart, and may never see you again, it's nice to know your work doesn't go unnoticed. You don't even want anything in return besides a smile. To spend hours working in the hot sun, with sticky paint, bug bites, blisters, cuts, and exhaustion, all you need at the end of the day is to know that some little kid now has a chance at a better future. Sometimes just a smile or a laugh can make your whole day. I felt very immersed into the culture while I was there, visiting shops, learning their language and living at each location. I also spent my time in Africa climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, which is an experience that you cannot explain without the experience. The porters and guides you receive are the most supportive and fantastic people you could ask for. They will do everything to make sure you make it to the top of your week long journey and will take care of you if you are sick at all or even have the smallest tummy ache. Never have I felt more at home than I did when I was in Africa with those 25 strangers that I can now call my family. I love GIVE and everything that they represent. Please, take a chance, step outside, open your eyes and change your perspective on life. It's worth a shot. All we have is time. Let's give what we can to those who need it more than we do. Here's a link to my video if you're further interested in the experience. Again, it was nothing short of amazing. Life-changing experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxb39gnsqGE

I just recently went on the Give Volunteer Thailand trip and got back to America a few weeks ago and I have to say, I miss Thailand. Working and living with the people I did was the best experience in my life thus far. If your considering volunteering abroad I 100 percent recommend you do it and I 100 percent recommend you do it with Give! Give was not only very supportive and helpful in my volunteer process from the moment I landed in Thailand but as soon as I signed up. Give always made sure if I had any questions since day one, I had someone to talk to and they made getting my flights, vaccinations, paperwork and everything else much easier and relatively stress free. Once I got to Thailand and met my guides, Tyler and Hailey, I instantly felt welcome. Both of them were extremely helpful and fun to be around, I never once felt like I was unsafe or being parented under their supervision. They were the ultimate guides, the local guides we had were also awesome, especially Chaue the funniest man alive. The accommodations we stayed in were more than, well, accommodating. We stayed in a couple different places depending on if we were in the city or what village we were staying at but you always had either your own bed or mat to sleep on with a mosquito net and were always fed ample amounts food. While volunteering I definitely had to challenge myself to get construction done but always felt amazing at the end of the day. When I was in Thailand we worked on projects such as building a road, packing bottles with sand to use as bricks and building a micro damn. However, if construction wasn't your thing you were given the choice each day to teach the kids English at the schools or do a construction project and the guides were very open with which projects we'd be doing what days and allowing anybody to sign up for as much of either as they would like, which I thought was really cool. I personally only did one day of teaching and the rest construction but I enjoyed every single day of volunteering. Aside from the volunteering aspect my Give trip did a lot more for me to help learn things about myself and just have an amazing time. We did cultural activities almost every night after volunteering which for me included making banana sticky rice, weaving bamboo baskets, sewing with local women, dressing in local attire and learning a local dance with them, a cooking class, planting rice with the locals and visiting a Buddhist temple. We also got to go on a trek through the jungle to find and then bathe a semi-wild elephant and go on a 3 day bamboo rafting journey down the Mae Taeng river. Trying to sum up my whole trip is really hard because it was so just many things for me, a challenge, an eye opener, an adventure, a new group of friends, a learning opportunity, a retreat. Give Volunteer's really do have so much to offer, they had a huge impact on my life and I am currently getting ready to sign up for another trip with Give hopefully for next summer!

I had planned to go on the GIVE Tanzania trip with my friend two years ago, but due to a shortage in savings as well as university commitments, I had to postpone. Eventually I got to planning my trip properly but the previous barriers had put me off a lot, and after so much waiting for the time to be right, I was questioning whether it would be worth it. It was. Every cent, every phone call, every email. The experience I had was indescribable. GIVE has changed my life. Every single one of our leaders openly showed a burning passion for helping others and improving lives. They naturally secreted happiness, positivity, hard work and the will to make a change. That was life-changing to me, to feel like no matter how small my contribution was, I could make a change for the better in this world. And now I will continue to do so. My group was lucky enough to open the classrooms for the nursery school and first two grades of primary school. We worked hard to put a final coat of paint on everything and complete the finishing touches. The opening day before the first day of school was a humbling experience, with the whole community turning up to sing and dance, the children coming to play. It was emotional and rewarding, and made me feel like I truly belonged in the village and that these children had a real chance at following their dreams. The people I met on my trip were as diverse as they were similar. From all corners of the Earth, but all there for the same reason; to help and to learn. It's incredible how close you can get to people you have only just met in two weeks. I talk to them all the time. The locals too, were kind, loving and open. I will never forget those I met from a different culture and upbringing who were all so accepting, because we're all on the same team. Team Human. GIVE provides undeniably amazing opportunities, and if it has even crossed your mind to go, you should. You will not regret it. You get to meet other people like you, others who will lift you up and inspire you. You will create incredible bonds with new friends who you will share the most hilarious, joyful and moving experiences with. You will see the most beautiful things. You will learn so much about yourself and about the world around you. GIVE rises above and beyond all expectations, it is a truly grassroots organisation with real people who work tirelessly to spread resources and love to those less fortunate as well as provide you with a trip that you will never forget. If I haven't made it clear that I think every single person should experience a GIVE trip... I think every single person should experience a GIVE trip. Be one of those people.
