Absolutely, undoubtedly loved the incredible trip I had with Free & Easy Traveler!!! The tour leaders, James O'Brien and Luke Helland we amazing. They were continually going out of their way to ensure we had the best trip possible, whether it was handing us a beer and spreading some cheer or making sure we were safe and didn't chafe. Always had a plan full of options making sure we knew about all the experience available and didn't miss out on anything. We even had a bit of drama on the trip and they handled it with incredible professionalism, keeping everyone comfortable and at ease. James always kept us entertained with jokes and magic tricks. You could tell they really made an effort to get to know each person on the trip. They were always there to share advice and teach us about the Philippine culture. On this tour we had the option of going on some incredible dives which our leaders joined in. We learned to swim like mermaids and went on a number of sailing trips to some beautiful remote islands. One Island we stayed on with just our group, had the entire place to ourselves. Overall such an epic trip. Would recommend it to anyone to is looking to have some fun and experience some new things. Epic trip!

Went on the Philippines 40 days with the Free and Easy group, and it was more amazing then i thought it was going to be. Some of the best beaches I've ever seen, amazing people and even better food. Getting around the Philippines was one of the most interesting things I've ever came across, i loved having to take boats everywhere and being on the water so much. Between the amazing scenery, the group of people and my leaders i could have stayed there forever. Our leaders were by far some of the best leaders I've ever had traveling with Free and Easy, they were so kind, so knowledgeable, and kept us entertained every minute. If we ever had a problem i would go to them first and if they didn't already know the answer they would find out for us as fast as they could. I would do this trip over and over again, it had some of the best accommodations I've ver had traveling with Free and Easy, the staff at the places we stayed at would always go above and beyond for us. If doing the trip i would recommend doing the whole 40, because they're two different trips. I could not tell you which one i liked more because they were both amazing in different ways. Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you I drink too much and that's an issue but I'm okay Hey, you tell your friends it was nice to meet them But I hope I never see them again I know it breaks your heart Moved to the city in a broke down car And four years, no calls Now you're looking pretty in a hotel bar And I can't stop No, I can't stop So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover That I know you can't afford Bite that tattoo on your shoulder Pull the sheets right off the corner Of the mattress that you stole From your roommate back in Boulder We ain't ever getting older We ain't ever getting older We ain't ever getting older

This trip was beyond awesome. I had the best time of my life. 40 days traveling in the Philippines, what more could a girl ask for. The beaches were to die for even in the raining season. Traveling with free and easy is so great because you gain more than friends, you gain travel family members. There is never a dull moment when you get a bunch of people together from different parts of the world who all have the same passion for travel. Highly recommend any trip that free and easy does. On to the leaders of the group, these guys really make the trip for you and mine was no exception. James O'Brien was a killer leader. If he didn't know an answer for your question he would make sure to find out. Or he would make up some elaborate story that didn't really make sense but was hilarious to answer your question. "Leaders" doesn't really describe what the experience is when you travel with free and easy. It’s more like slightly more experienced other travel members. They hang out and do everything you do, the only difference is they know the cool places to do it! James is such a big personality that everywhere we went he knew at least one person that could help guide you in the direction you wanted to experience in your travels. From tattoo parties to island hopping to the best ways to get around the town/cities. His beersbies skills are pretty top notch but his snap chat skills really could use some work. Saying "first time every time" yet taking 5 attempts doesn't count! My point is that if you’re considering going traveling with free and easy JUST DO IT! You will never regret it. And if you’re looking for a fun person to travel with look for some of James' trips! He makes the free and easy experience that much better!

This was my first tour and it exceeded my expectations. Our guides were amazing and the locations we went were all great. Personally I would have liked the option to upgrade accommodations at a couple places but all the locations were great. All people on the tour were a blast to hang out with and there was never a day without lots of laughs. Both guides were always good at bringing energy to the group, even on long travel days. Highly recommend free and easy!

This trip was everything I expected and then some. The places that we went and the people that we were with couldn't have made for a better combination. Initially I never thought the Philippines had something specifically for me to offer but I could not have been more wrong. Free & Easy has an approach to trips like these that can only be summed up by the words 'Life Changing'. I was able to become PADI certified and see some breathtaking dive spots and was also able to develop numerous relationships with locals and like to think I was able to leave a lasting impression just as they did I. The amount of partying was perfect but at the same time you never felt forced to do anything you weren't feeling up to. This was not my first trip with Free & Easy and it most definitely will not be my last. FNEZ played a large part in allowing me to put what's really important into perspective. James was an integral part in making this trip have the impact that it did on my life and made it as an awesome as a time as it literally could have been. I actually don't think it was possibly to be any better. He was easy going, easy to approach and very knowledgeable if I had any questions or requests on activities or about the area we were in. He has the knack for developing a personal relationship with each and every person that was in the group which made nobody feel like they were left out or mattered less than the person next to them. He made sure the group was always entertained or had options put forth in front of them to do as they feel when they feel. James has an abundance of travel experience and he's a great dude to have around when you are trying to see the world and really experience the local culture as opposed to the tourist pamphlet.

    4.0 - Good

I went on the 20 day Off the Beaten Path your in the Philippines November 2016 with Luke and James. I chose this tour mostly for dive locations and because there was a deal on in August when I booked. I chose to book my own flight which I normally do with tour companies as I like doing this myself and I find it is usually cheaper. First stop was Cebu to meet up with the group, about half had been on the Cloud 9 tour and we're continuing on the full 40 days in the Philippines and then we overlapped this one night with those going home after 20. The drive to Malapascua is... Slow out of the city and winding through the rest of the island, and the drivers do not take mercy. Either way, we got there and Thresher Cove Resort was an awesome little Haven to start the trip. I chose to dive 2 days here, and start my advanced open water course. Here, you really learn they aren't kidding when they say beer is $1-$1.50 and a 26 of rum is $2.50... Quick trip back to Cebu to get us to Boracay. Boracay is pretty touristy, but definitely a fun spot. The accommodation was in Station 3 and fairly simple. Everything you need is along the beach. Here, we did mermaid school, but unfortunately got rained out of cliff jumping at Ariel's point. Our flight got cancelled on us leaving Boracay, so our travel day to get to Puerto Princesa was pretty long but the tour leaders handled it very well. We landed in Puerto Princesa late and checked into a pretty nice hotel for the night. Mall was close by to walk around for a bit, nothing much else here and left in the morning for the underground river at Sabang. We unfortunately landed this day on a Sunday, so there were many locals at the underground river in addition to tourists and the wait was long on the shore/boat dock and at the entrance point. The underground river was neat but not something I would generally recommend. But maybe I was just too tired of waiting around all day to fully appreciate it! The accommodation in Sabang was probably the worst of the trip but the evening on the beach and sunset was pretty great. Got to El Nido the next day, this is a small, cramped, but lively place and we had a fun night out for dinner and to a reggae bar on the beach. I would have enjoyed having a bit more time in the town but the next day we were off to Alternative island. Be prepared to be blown away here. This was by far the best 3 days of the trip, and a wild time with the 23 awesome group members. We got to know each other even better as we took up the entire resort (island). The rooms were beautiful, the entire resort just amazing. Some sad goodbyes to this place and we were off to Coron. I didn't spend any time in the town, as I was busy diving and the hotel/bar/dive shop we stay at had everything I needed. Shipwreck dives!! Do them. That is all. There is also a hike up to the island "Hollywood" sign and some hot pools to go to as tourist spots. Manila next! Z hostel was lots of fun and we had a good final night of partying with the crew. I left a day early the following day, which I regret now! The manila airport is pretty basic and the duty free is crap... FYI. Buy gifts and alcohol before you get there! Overall, another great trip with FNEZ, I can't wait for my next one! Luke and James are awesome, I would be ecstatic to be on another trip with either of them! I highly recommend this trip, the locations were great, and it was an awesome place to be with a group. I felt safe everywhere we went with having 2 leaders around which is a big deal for me. Only downside - I wish I saw more wildlife both on land and diving but the shipwrecks well made up for it!

James was one of the best leaders I've ever had. He is so much fun! So smart and hilarious. He is great at his job and deserves recognition. If there is ever anything that goes wrong he always makes things better and creates excitement. He is so good at what he does and is such a great dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free and easy has been the best travelling i have ever done. The last trip I did with them was the Philippines 20 day "off the beaten path" and it was mind blowing. Never had such an amazing time with such amazing people. Beautiful beachs and cheap rum makes for an unreal time. James O'Brien was one of the leaders along with Luke Helland. The trip wouldn't be complete without them. Two fun down to earth guys always looking out for the group and keeping things interesting. The places we went were sometimes off the map in the best way possible and we're the best times ever just because of the new friends we all became. Accommodations were great as well. Stayed with some very friendly locals that know free and easy and take us in like family. Can't say enough about free and easy and our guides.

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • August 1, 2016

Just wondering if there would be an opportunity to swim with the whale sharks?

Unfortunately it is not included in the itinerary that you will get to swim with Whale Sharks however you could always organise to do this yourself in your free time. Just incase you are interested on day 2 of the tour you actually get the opportunity to swim with Thresher Sharks & Manta rays as you will get a private boat to Malapascua which has fantastic diving spots.

    • February 18, 2016

What's the group size on this tour?

Group sizes can range from (including leaders) 16-24 people. The average is 18-20. Every trip is different and regardless of the size of the group, you’re assured an awesome adventure.

    • February 18, 2016

Is this a group tour or an independent tour? We are a couple and prefer travelling on our own instead of being part of a group.

This itinerary and trip style are super flexible. This means that you only need to participate in the activities you want to and your tour leader can help you set up any additional activities that you’re interested in. You can even go off on your own or with a friend for a couple days if you want to explore an area we don’t stop at during the trip. It couldn’t be easier to have your dream trip!
