Really enjoyed the trip. Staying in the Ger camp and visiting Moscow were the highlights. The train journey itself was amazing - the facilities on the train were average but decent and most passengers were friendly even if they couldn't speak a word of English.
The Honchos were a bit hit and miss. They were either really great at their job or not helpful at all. The hotel in Ulaanbaatar was pretty bad - not hot water at all the last day before being stuck on the train for five days! I think communication could definitely be improved - we had a day to kill in Hohhot that we didn't know about and it was a difficult place to find something interesting to do. I would recommend taking a rail guide book (such as http://trailblazer-guides.com/book/trans-siberian-handbook). I found it great to read and this particular guide gives a heads up on towns and sights coming up which is cool.
All-in-all, great trip but the honchos and accommodation make the difference between a good trip and an amazing one.

The tour is far too expensive for what you get.
The guides only spend time with you at a real stopover which means hardly any time at all. No one told us we'd have a 10 hour stop in Earlian - no one of our ground had kept any Yuan - and of course there was no one waiting there to show us around. Our tour guide in Moscow took us to the hostel and after check in she had us fill in the tour reviews and left straight after. This is not what I thought the honchos were for. The organisation is a big minus.
On the train you are stuck to yourself - which is fine, but why should I pay Vodkatrain for it?
Since meals are not included in any tour, so it's up to you so Vodkatrain can't get a rating from me for that one.
The accommodation chosen for Beijing and Ulaanbator was far too luxurious for Budget travellers. Chosing dorm rooms in Beijing and a cheaper hotel in Ulaanbator could surely have kept the price a lot lower.
After all:
Since you spend most of your time on your own/in your little group without a guide, it is a waste of money and I would recommend everyone to organise the trainride by yourself!

I can honestly say that taking the Vodkatrain was one of the best decisions I have made. It is not your typical 'tour', and I was really fortunate to be travelling with a wonderful group of like-minded people, many of whom I'm still in touch with three years later.
The trains are amazing, the scenery breathtaking and the opportunities for fun and spontaneity absolutely priceless. I would recommend this to anyone who loves train travel, enjoys meeting new people, killing hours playing cards and experiencing new cultures. :-)
