Intrepid Beijing To Delhi, 4th April 2012

Reviewed 19th May 2012
I LOVED THIS TRIP! this is an incredible experience for anybody wanting to go way off the beaten track. Our leader was amazing, as she made recommendations on everything including food (sometimes she ordered for us) and was really knowledgeable. The low point was probably the long train tcp but this was a lot of fun (only low in the sense that after 48 hours on a train anyone is bound to get a little edgy) and everest base camp was the highlight for sure!! I cannot say enough good things! Just book it!

Intrepid Classic Cuba, 31st March 2012

Reviewed 12th April 2012
This was the most amazing tour/ holiday i have ever been on. The people were so friendly and super welcoming and its makes such a difference when people are genuinely interested in where you come from and go beyond the call of duty to make you happy. The guide (Valerie) was able to answer questions about politics, local flora and fauna, local customs, menu options, places to shop or go out. He was also very funny and took time to get to know everyone. On our visit to Maria La Gorda, where many of the activities were optional, Valerie walked around the resort on a regular basis to hang out with us and make sure that we were all ok. When the tour ended I had a serious case of the post-holiday blues as we became a merry bunch filled with hangovers and personal jokes. People should be warned that this tour is awesome and you will leave wanting more.

Intrepid Experience Colombia, 11th February 2012

Reviewed 27th February 2012
Tourists may be scared of Colombia based on narco-terror news from 20 years ago, but safety has greatly improved. Result is great authenticity unaffected by tourists. Residents are warm and helpful. Local leader Johany Ortiz was excellent. Countryside was varied and beautiful. Beaches were gorgeous at Tayrona National Park. Cartagena was the best city with rich history and colonial charm. Try to get out of the cities for a day to see typical rural farms and towns. Recommend this trip.

Intrepid Cambodia Discovery, 12th November 2011

Reviewed 17th December 2011
This was my first time traveling overseas and I am so glad i chose to do it with Intrepid. Sareth, our guide, was amazing! It helped so much having a local person showing us around and recommending this to see/eat/do that we would normal not have thought of doing. It never felt like he was a guide but one of us fitting in with jokes and support when needed, specially when i lost my wallet Sareth was really there for me and it made me feel more secure knowing that he was there with me to help. Using Intrepid helped eliminating the stress and anxiety i first had, being my first trip, and made my trip that much more enjoyable. I don't think I would have been able to go through all the public transportation by myself or try the weird and wonderful food that Cambodia has to offer. It made the trip so much more spectacular seeing the REAL cambodia though a Cambodians eye. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants too see Cambodia "outside the box" and I will be using Intrepid my for future traveling.

Intrepid Vietnam Express Southbound, 30th September 2011

Reviewed 6th December 2011
great trip!! we covered lots in the short ten days, and it didn't seem too rushed. our tour leader, mr t, was the BEST! made everything so much fun - even when the weather was against us. this trip had everything - moments of relaxation, but also hustle and bustle, shopping opportunities, cultural sites and insights, lots of great food, and fun! would definitely recommend it if you want to go to vietnam but don't have too much time to spare :)

Intrepid Sabah Discovery, 7th May 2011

Reviewed 6th July 2011
Mount Kinabalu, located in the Malaysian state of Sabah on the beautiful island of Borneo. I simply fell in love with it. It was also one of the most underrated and difficult climbs I have ever done! I went on a 10 day Sabah Discovery Tour with Intrepid and had a great little group of 5 of us, led by our fearless leader, Joanna. She was just as "gila" as me! We set off for the climb at about 8.00am on the Mesilau Trail. This trail to the summit, was about 2 kilometres longer than the main, more popular, Summit Trail. The first 500 metres of this trail was the most gruelling 500 metres of my life! It was basically step after step after step, of clay / wooden steps about 50-60cm high. The lactic acid in my thigh muscles built up after about the first 10 steps and it just kept going. There were sign posts all along the way telling you how far you'd gone and once I reached the 500 metre mark, I was both shocked and relieved! Shocked that I'd only gone that far and relieved that I didn't have to do it again. Little did I know there was much more of the same. The best part about this climb, was that our guide and porter were at the back and I was on my own for a large part of it. Following the trail, finding Pitcher Plants and Orchids, hearing monkeys in the distance and just smelling the beautiful jungle air was mesmerising. Another highlight was the change in the environment as I ascended. Beginning with dense, humid, rainforest with moss-covered rocks, crystal clear streams and towering trees, going to dry sceryphyll forest with trees and shrubs that resembled the Aussie bush! It really was breathtaking. There was hardly anyone on this trail and it really made it special. Once we reached the junction at the Summit Trail, but this time I'd met up with a couple of other walkers who were about the same pace as me, it really became busy. The trail, rather than being a collection of haphazard clay steps, wooden ladders and mud tracks, we more like big sandstone boulders craving their way through to the lodge. After 5 and a half hours, we were one of the first groups to the main Lodge, where we sat, admired the view of the distinctive Cumulonimbus clouds that are ever-present in the tropics and had an early dinner. Awoken by our alarms at 1.45am the following day, we were up again, our muscles hardly having time to recover, before we ascended another 2.7 kilometres to the summit, in time for sunrise. Again, it was just one foot after the other, mostly over sparse granite rocks with no foliage in between and following a white rope. Lucky it was pitch dark because if we'd looked to the top, it would have been far more intimidating. Once we made it to the top, there was a bit of "argy bargy" to try and get a photo with the summit sign, but after that, it was just a matter of admiring the view and the sun beginning to peak through the clouds. What an amazing mountain. I fell in love with it. I've done 4 day Inca Trail and this climb was about a million times harder! It's supposed to be even harder that Mt Kilimanjaro. And after I found that out, my plans to climb Kilimanjaro are now well underway! Mt Kinabalu was the best mountain I've ever conquered. I recommend it to everyone.
