Contiki London to Athens, 2nd July 2009
Reviewed 15th February 2010
This tour was a 3 week trip covering the path from London to Athens hitting Paris, Barcalona, Vatican city, Rome, Vencie, Florence and corfu along the way, but to name a few! Every day of the tour was filled with laughter, adventure and of course the typical tourist activities. If you want to see as much of Europe as possible in a short amount of time then a Contiki tour is good choice. You do spend a lot of time on the tour coach but it's not such a bad thing as its normally spent sleeping off the night before! :)
The average age of the tour was around the 24-25 mark and the majority of the crew were Australian along with some Americans, Canadians and South Africans. We all got on really well and had a right ball together!
My personal highlight was visiting Venice as its a city i've always wanted to see and it didn't dissapoint! We had lunch at the Rialto bridge, a glass of champagne on a gondola ride and topped the day off with a beach party at the vencie stopover site.
The trip was one of the best tours I have ever done and i've made some great friends out of it and seen some of the best sites Southern Europe has to offer. If you want a holiday where everything is taken care of and all you have to worry about is having an amazing time then this is for you!
Contiki London to Athens plus Greek Island Hopping (CLGI), 20th June 2009
Reviewed 7th January 2010
If you're interested in travelling but don't know where to start or how to go about it,I'd recommend to check out Bugbitten at first - it was a great help to figure what I was interested in, what I wanted to see and do etc (everything). It helped me find the best time of my life! I did the London to Athens tour. I found it a great introduction to travel and the world.
The highlight of my trip was the Greek Islands - I think it's the best place in the world - best food, culture, people, parties, all round greatest. I loved meeting new people - in fact on tour I made 50 new friends! We had that great of a time together that we are having a Contiki Reunion in two weeks. Our tour manager has come from South Africa and others from the UK.
I had such a great time with Contiki I extended my tour another week. I'd moved to Paris, marry a Spaniard and live like a Greek, in a blink of an eye!
I've now got the bug and searching for my next adventure!!
This trip was beyond what i had expected. I got to experience more than i would have ever imagined. The shows i got to see, the sights i got to take in. i Couldn't believe the amount of culture i saw in one month. My tour guide had lots of energy and kept us on out toes the whole trip
I did the European Vista, 21 day Concept Tour around Europe... BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!
HIGHLIGHTS OF TRIP

PACKING TIPS
Now I am not going to go through everything, but one of the major things I wish I had bought was a travel laptop. Almost everywhere had free wifi, makes it easier to store photos and just makes life easier in general
Contiki Austria Ski Only (meet us there) - 1 week, 20th February 2009
Reviewed 21st April 2009
Snow. Fun times. Friends. Crazy times. Crazy memories. This is what I experienced on my first Contiki trip. I joined the February week-long snowboarding trip to Hopfgarten, Austria and had an absolute blast.
The bus takes you from Russell Square, London, through France, Germany and finally into Austria, right to Contiki's chalet in the picturesque snow village.
For only 199 pound we got a weeks accomodation, return bus travel to Austria, breakfast every morning and 6 dinners.
Ski/snowboard hire was relatively cheap and again, they took you there and organised everything for you.
The accomodation was great. Its share rooms but they match you up according to sex so it's not completely uncomfortable. There are bathrooms in the rooms and the beds are very comfortable.
Downstairs there is a bar with cheap prices. They have events planned several nights which you are not obliged to join, but it is recommended because they are very fun. They also offer nights out in town at typical Austrian pubs with traditional dancers, very fun indeed.
The staff are great, very friendly, helpful and easy to get along with. They are always keen to join you for a drink in the hotel bar or join you in town at the favourite Aussie bar - The Silver Bullet.
The last night is definitelly the best - awards for the best and most improved skiiers and snowboarders and a special presentation by the Contikli staff- it has to be seen to be believed!
Girls - do NOT pack high heels. You cannot wear them so it's a waste of packing space! They don't belong in the bar nd you definitely cannot wear them outside as there is so much ice it becomes an ice rink. While there is certainly some partying going in, its a very casual atmosphere. I partied the whole week is either flatties or ugg boots! You wear heels and you look very out of place! Its quite warm inside so long sleeve tops and jeans are fine. Travel in trackies or comfy long pants, and definitely bring a blanket for the bus as it got very cold on both trips.
Whether you are a first time skiier or just keen for some slope time, I would recommend anyone to go with Contiki. A fun time had by all!
Contiki Ultimate European plus Egypt, 2nd May 2008
Reviewed 22nd October 2008
When booking this tour you have a choice of two options for 6 days. 1 is to go to Egypt, the other is to go Island hopping in greece. Whilst Island hopping in Greece (Santorini and Ios) would have been relaxing, it is something you can do at any time on your own. The experience of Egypt is completely unique and really opens your eyes to another diverse culture, and some amazing sites. It was quite trying, due mainly to the culture shock, but it was amazing! It was definitely a highlight of our trip.
Later travelling to Turkey was equally as amazing, again a culture shock, but so many great sites. And getting to travel to ANZAC cove and its surrounds was great.
We had heaps of fun and the people we travelled with were really nice. Yes, there will always people that are completely different to you, but you get used to it, and generally get along anyway.
Pack as light as possible. Pack what you think you'll need, then halve it. You read this advice everywhere, and it's true.
A great way to see a range of countries, safely. Everything is organised for you, so it eases you into travelling.
This was a great experience and i would reccommend it to anyone who is unsure of what tour to do while in America. You get to see some great sites and visit some amazing states. You hit all the right tourist attractions with highlights being a helicopter ride over the grand canyon and landing inside for a champagne lunch, Niagara Falls, not to mention the city that never sleeps Las Vegas is a must for anyone going to America.
Any questions just ask i will be happy to share my experience to others.
Amanda :)
I decided to do a Winter Contiki because it coincided with the end of my visa and I wanted to do some travel before going home but didn't want to go by myself. I would definitely recommend doing a Contiki tour for anyone travelling by themselves, it's a great way to make new friends and to see all kinds of places without having to worry about the logistics of accommodation and transport.
We started in London and travelled to Calais where we caught the ferry to Calais and travelled across France and Belgium into Amsterdam. From there we visited Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Italy, Monaco, and France before returning to London. Winter in Europe is very different to summer and I really enjoyed seeing the different faces of cities I'd been to before. Also there were fewer tourists everywhere and there were the most gorgeous Christmas markets in almost every country we visited. It was amazing to wander around with a cup of Glu wein (mulled wine) and look at all the Christmas lights. I also picked up some great presents.
Highlights of the tour included wine tasting in a Cave in the Rhine Valley in Germany, visiting the Grand Casino in Monaco and drinking the nutty martinis in the bar next door, and going to the Moulin Rouge in Paris. Favourite cities of mine were Venice and Florence, neither of which I'd been to before but both of which exceeded my expectations. We also had some mad nights out on the town, pretty much every night actually although many others on the tour took it easier than I did!! I met incedible people from all over the place on the tour, friends I still keep in touch with now.
For anyone considering a Contiki tour in winter I would definitely recommend it and would suggest taking lots of warm clothes as it is FREEZING in most countries although we were walking around in T-shirts in Nice. I would also suggest packing some nice going-out clothes for the fancier excursions such as the Moulin Rouge and the Grand Casino as they are pretty dressy there. The optional excursions do cost extra but were well worth doing. The only one apparently that wasn't that great was the Fondue lunch in Lucerne although I didn't do that.
All in all Contiki really was the greatest trip ever, and while you don't have the time in some cities to see everything, it's a great way to get a taster of some of the best cities in Europe and to be able to enjoy every minute with a group of fab people.
Camping Europe 45 Days!
So I admit I had never even put up a tent before let alone camped and I was a bit nervous about the 45 days ahead of me. However, this trip ended up being one of the highlights of my travels to date.
The staff were wonderful and helpful ( such as breaking into tents that a certain novice had managed to lock herself out of, lol). The food was amazing too. I can't believe that you would be able to have such a great feed in any hotel for the price we paid.
The camping allowed everyone on the tour to get to know each other so much better and we had great fun thinking of ways and games to entertain ourselves.
The destinations were great and I never felt too rushed, which is saying something when you cram 17 countries into 45 days. We were able to immerce ourselves into so many different cultures and the optional exra tours had someting to suit most tastes.
I would reccommend this tour to most people, even if you do have the money to splash out on hotels. Sometimes you are going to have to pack up in the rain or go without blow drying your hair, but the friends that you make and the amazing things you get to experience are well worth it.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRIP
- Walking tour of Berlin which took in sights including (but definitely not limited to) Checkpoint Charlie, the longest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate & the site of Hitler's Bunker. Best of all, it was run by a local - someone who grew up in West Berlin. It gave a great historical perspective on the city.
- A lunch stop in Dresden which is well worth a visit for the amazing reconstruction work that has occurred since the carpet bombing of WWII.
- An impromptu night walking tour of Prague run by our tour manager. Fabulous to see the Christmas markets and just get orientated to the beautiful city.
PACKING TIPS
We went in Winter, so would recommend the following:
- A very warm, wind and rain proof coat.
- Good, warm walking shoes and socks. There's quite a bit of walking to be done in these two cities.
- Layers. It's cold, cold, cold outside - but nice & toasty as soon as you get inside somewhere!
