Acacia Adventure Holidays South East Adventure (24 Days), 28th September 2008
Reviewed 5th February 2009
Last fall I did a tour with Acacia Africa and I had the most amazing time of my life. I had heard about Acacia through a friend I met in Australia and decided to give it a try. From the moment the tour started till it ended everything was well organized. Our tour (Zac and Amy) guides kept everyone informed of what was going to happen. They made sure we had the proper currency when entering a new country and cooked great quality foods. I thought I was going to starve on this tour but instead I was well fed. Our time in the Masaii Mara Kenya was amazing, we saw all of the big 5 animals. The beaches in Zanzibar was amazing and the site of Victoria Falls was out of this world. Our tour group ranged from 18 to early 30's, everyone got along well and we all had fun. Most of the people I talked to said that thier tour guides with Acacia were also good.

Tour was fantastic, would strongly recommend it to anyone. We had people on the tour ranging from 19 to 50, and attitude meant much more than age. Highlights were Serengeti, Zanzibar and Victoria Falls. Is definately worth crossing over to Zimbabwe to view that side of the falls, although Zambia is amazing too.

This IS the ultimate trip to explore Africa, the countries you will visit are Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa (there is also the opportunity to visit Zimbabwe as well)
My favourite moments were spending an hour with a family of beautiful mountain gorillas in Uganda, volunteering to paint the outside of a school also in Uganda and walking with two adorable lion cub brothers in Zimbabwe.
Our group varied from 11 people on the Kenya - Uganda - Kenya leg to 21 and 23 people on the other legs. The age group was mainly young people in their 20's and 30's from Australia, New Zealand and Britain with the odd European and American thrown in for good measure.
Our truck was really comfortable, at various times we bumped into other trucks run by other companies and compared to ours they looked very uncomfortable and some even had plastic walls, not good on the bumpy, dusty road I bet!!
If you want to see the real Africa with an experienced and very professional organisation then go with Acacia Africa.
This was the only tour I did through Acacia Africa. All their pre-tour admin was excellent and excellent customer service.
They used a local tour company called Zara tours. I wanted to use a reputable company as I had heard stories of cheap companies which were dangerous.
The Climb: was one of the hardest things I had done. What became apparent was that your likely sucess at reaching the top depended on how your body reacted to the altitude - this is something that you can't prepare for and just have to accept. We had a person on our trip who was in excellent shape but got terrible altitude sickness and didn't make it - just goes to show that you can't predict who will make it and who won't - it's down to the altitude.
All in all a good experience.
