The jewel of Central America, Costa Rica's environment is world-renowned as one of nature's most vibrant and diverse. If you are short on time but want a taste of this country's unique sights then jump on board this express trip through the colonial streets of San Jose, the emerald green countryside of La Fortuna, the lush cloud forests of Monteverde and the turquoise seas of Manuel Antonio. With abundant wildlife, immense volcanic landscapes and superb Pacific beaches, this comfortable adventure is sure to be a trip to remember.
Physical RatingYou are required to carry your pack on and off trains and buses, up hotel steps, etc. Your itinerary may include easy paced walks or bike rides, but these are on mainly flat ground.
Culture Shock RatingThe trip includes a range of accommodation, such as basic hotels with western facilities or overnight trains. Days of being on the move are well interspersed, communication with the outside world is ever-present and a wide variety of food is commonly available.

Day 1 San JoseGet a feel for San Jose on a guided sightseeing walk through the city. There are plenty of museums, cafes and shops to visit, or simply relax in the main plaza and watch the world pass by.
Days 2-3 La FortunaSet beneath an active volcano and with waterfalls and hot springs dotted amongst the forests, La Fortuna is the ideal spot to soak up the Costa Rican vibe. Head into the beautiful surrounds and explore the emerald countryside by bike and on foot. Discover the cool waters of the La Fortuna Waterfall - a favourite for cooling off in - and maybe take a canopy tour for a birds-eye view of the forest. A visit to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge can't be missed.
Days 4-5 MonteverdeSet between two cloud forests, this secluded Quaker settlement is a delight to explore. Hike or ride through the verdant cloud forest to admire the vast array of plants, birds and animals. This area is home to monkeys, sloths, butterflies and a whole range of weird and wonderful amphibians.
Days 6-7 Manuel Antonio National ParkDiscover the white sand beaches, tropical vegetation and turquoise waters of Manuel Antonio National Park. Hike along the trails to spot some of the abundant wildlife or take to the oceans to swim, kayak or surf. With clearly marked trails, secluded bays and rocky headlands to explore this is Costa Rica at its best.
Days 8-9 San JoseReturn to San Jose and perhaps enjoy a meander through the stalls of the Central Market, see the vast collection of shimmering art at the Gold Museum or catch a show at the city's pride and joy - the National Museum.
