Trip Description:
Starting in Shanghai, you will have the opportunity to see all its wonderful sights before heading via a local water town to the former capital of Nanjing. Then head north to the birthplace of Confucius at Qufu, before the train to Beijing and all its historical sites.
Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1 Shanghai
Welcome to Shanghai! This evening you will meet your Trip Leader and the rest of your travelling companions in the café area of the hostel. After a brief information session, you may want to join your group to explore the local bar and restaurant area. Your Trip leader will be sure to show you their favourites.
Day 2 Guilin
Today is free for you to visit some of the places you may have missed yesterday. Try the art district or the bohemian style Tai Kang Lu. In the afternoon we will hop on the overnight train to Guilin.
Day 3 Traditional Water Town
This morning we head out to a local canal-lined water village (not one that is teeming with tourist buses). We spend the evening here and have the chance to see and explore the water towns in a way that most don’t have the chance to experience.
Day 4 Nanjing
This morning you will travel to Nanjing, a cosmopolitan university town with Ming Dynasty city walls. This former capital of China is a great mix of both old and new.
Day 5 Nanjing
Today you are free to explore Nanjing at your own pace because this town is packed with historical sites. You can visit many of them as you stroll the forested parks of Zinjin Mountain on the Eastern fringe of the city or visit the unsettling exhibits in the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing massacre.
Day 6 Qufu
This morning we head to Qufu, the hometown of one of China's most well known scholars, Confucius. Wandering the streets you feel like you have stepped back in time, wander the streets and see how local villagers live.
Day 7 Qufu
This morning you are free to visit ‘San Kong’ (the three Confucius’) at your own pace, Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion ad Confucius Forest or simply continue getting lost in the streets. This afternoon we board the train to our final destination of Beijing.
Day 8 Beijing
Today is free to explore the citadel at your own pace. You may like to visit the Forbidden City, check out some markets, visit Beijing's Art district or meander through Beijing's old hutongs.
Day 9 Beijing
Today you sadly say farewell to your new friends or you can continue the adventure on our ‘Beijing to Xian’ pass or maybe stay a few days and explore this ancient city on the ‘Beijing Express’ to experience more of the real China.
